Hello,
I'm just 13 weeks gone and over the last few days have experience sharp pains in vagina which I'm worried about. Has anyone else had this?
I've also been suffering from lower back pain which I wasn't expecting until much later on...is this common?
Any advice would be great.

Strangely enough I also had this. I was quite concerned but was advised it was most probably the baby lying on a nerve.

I would speak to your midwife if you are concerned.

Thanks - glad someone else has had it! didn't think of that..thought baby would be too small at 13 wks.

I had back pain early on and some discomfort in my vaginal area which the OB/GYN says is normal. He reckons that it was just my uterus stretching.

If you are worried I would contact your MW just incase.

13 weeks does sound very early to feel the baby on a nerve but the body does go through over-whelming changes.

Have you spoke with your midwife? You really should if you are concerned. I was concerned about everything.

Keep this bumped as Lulumama or Klaw may have some ideas?

It is probably nothing to worry about but it's always best to get an opinion from your mw. Your body goes through major changes and things can feel very different to normal.

I had bad pains about 4/5 weeks in and demanded to see a gp as I was worried. Turned out I had mild bladder infection, I had no idea the symptoms could be so different from normal during pg!

In Pregnancy there's no such thing as a stupid question! As long as you are reassured and can relax, that is the main thing.

Let us know how you get on.

I has similar pains which were due to SPD - your MW will know for sure though, so just ask. You are quite right, they will have heard everything before

Jacanne · 06/11/2007 19:27

I had very similar pains - like a downwards stabbing pain - I ended up having mild SPD.

I had sharp pains from about 8 weeks to about 18 weeks - felt like being prodded high up in my vagina.

All was normal. It was a bit disconcerting though!!

I used to get that a lot when pregnant with ds. It got lots worse as he got bigger I'm afraid - used to feel like a fist was going to pop out (TMI!!!)

I have this with every pregnancy, when i was in Germany last pg i was 24 weeks and the dr told me it was my cervix, as it was slighty erroded it was opening up very slightly which was causing the pain then sealing closed again. He told me the chances of m/c are very small and is just your body getting on with it. Every now and then i get a small bleed with the pain, but i never worry this is my 4th preg and all have been fine, not one m/c (touch wood). hope this helps. emma

Thanks everyone - that's all really reassuring!
I have spoken to midwife and she wasn't too concerned, said she would send a urine sample off in case of a urine infection or kidney infection but said unless I start bleeding then try not to worry! Phew !!
