Elective csection

Hello after a tough first birth and alot of anxiety I've decided on a csection... I spoke to the hospital on Tuesday due to the fact my placenta was low... She said that they are happy with me going for a natural birth but when I mentioned my anxiety and want for a csection she booked me in to talk to the antinatal clinic in the hospital next week when I will be 39 weeks!! It seems really late now.. Will they book me in for a csection within a couple of days after that? I understand they don't do sections before 39 weeks anyways if there is no underline issues? Any experience in this?

They can book a cesarean at short notice so I wouldn't worry about the timing too much.
My elective was booked 9 days before surgery (after twin turned breech) but I could have had it 6 days earlier too. Hubby was in a cast with a broken leg though so the later date meant he'd have his cast off the day after birth so would be more useful.

Aw thanks yes I thought that's what she said on the phone.. I'm also seeing my mw today so will ask as well.. Feel like an idiot asking for a section but it's making me feel less stressed already x

I’m guessing you are already 37 or 38 weeks so being booked in for next week is reasonable as the clinic will probably already be fairly full up. Otherwise I would be cynical enough to suspect your appointment is so late on the assumption you’ll go into labour beforehand and not get a choice.

I did wonder that.. And if baby decides to come before than so be it.. Just knowing I have a section if she doesn't is making me feel better x im 38 weeks tomorrow

What gestation did you have your first baby?

Sundance123 · 03/03/2021 10:00

Hope you get sorted soon @Sundance123

Slightly different but I'm 35 weeks with no. 3 who is breech and I have no idea what is happening with regards to birth etc. So can completely understand you feeling worried that nothing is booked yet. I had my first at 36+6 and my second at 39+0 so I'm not keen on waiting to get a plan in place Hmm

Oh bless you yeah they don't seem to be in any rush x

I have mine booked in but only 2 days before due date. You’ll be able to guess based on what the days of the week are. I was told they don’t book in on Saturdays, Sundays or Mondays x

Oh brilliant thank you x

I'd be sceptical that they are booking it in late in case you go into labour anyway......

Personally I had my first c section at 39 weeks. (Originally elective but ended up being needed for breech baby anyway)

I thought they were usually booked in when you request one at your 36 week midwife appointment? In my area only certain hospitals do electives and only on certain days (usually
Only 2 days a week as rest of week left open for emergencies). So you could end up at a hospital not of your choosing miles away

38 weeks is a bit late to request one if you are so anxious about it?.....

Sundance123 · 03/03/2021 11:25

Well originally I was going to need a csection because of a low lying placenta but it suddenly has moved seen on my scan last week.. But I said I would still prefer a csection as I was worried about another natural birth.. So the lady booked an appointment at the hospital on 10th.. So I don't know my mw today said I can have a csection if I wish

I've got my csection date it's the 12th.. I emailed them and they quickly understood how I felt xxx
