Hi, I’d really appreciate any advice possible.

So basically I’ve been in for 5 blood tests now and it’s all very confusing.

  1. Saturday 13th Feb (hcg at 135)
  2. Monday 15th Feb (hcg at 186) so it had increased but not doubled
  3. Wednesday 17th Feb (hcg at 206) so had increased again but not doubled
Had no contact until Tuesday 23rd and had a blood clot that passed over the weekend that was quite large.
  1. Tuesday 23rd (hcg at 50) so had now decreased
  2. Tuesday 2nd I was told to take a pregnancy test sent in the mail, which came back positive (wasn’t a faint line either) and was told to go back for another blood test (hcg at 67) so levels have now increased by 17, when really they should be pretty much at 0 considering a week ago they were at 50.

Can anyone please please help! I’m so confused I’d appreciate it so so much!!xx

Were these bloods done by the EPU? They should be investigating a possible ectopic with HCG behaving that way. Fingers crossed you get a scan and some answers asap.

ElliexAiden · 03/03/2021 00:18

Yes, they were. They said that they can’t rule out an ectopic pregnancy, but I’ve had barely any communication from anyone to be honest.

Have you had a scan OP? I had this a couple of years ago, it was called a pregnancy of unknown location as they couldn't find the pregnancy in my uterus, tubes, ovaries, anywhere. My hcg levels were similar to yours for over 2 weeks, they were increasing but barely. They finally started to decrease, but not very quickly, like yours. I ended up having to have an injection called methotrexate to "flush out" the pregnancy so to speak.
Your situation sounds very similar to mine, I'm sorry that you're going through it, it's a very stressful time 😔 xx

ElliexAiden · 03/03/2021 18:56

@lockdownbabyx I think it is that, I haven’t been offered a scan and have barely been told anything. Just been in and out for blood tests. I have another one tomorrow, it’s sounds exactly like your situation so it probably is that x

You likely haven't been offered a scan because of the low Hcg levels. It's generally accepted that nothing would be seen or n a scan until levels are above 1000-1500ish.

But I agree that this needs medics, and Roy should be taking charge and coming up with a plan. Push your gp if you aren't getting help.

@ElliexAiden I only had a scan initially when I first went to the hospital due to spotting, after that it was just blood tests. I didn't have much info for those 2 weeks either, they we're waiting to see what my bloods were doing, so I don't think they will be able to tell you much at this point anyway. I would say because your bloods are so low, they've probably ruled out ectopic. The likelihood in my opinion, is they are waiting to see if your bloods go right down below 10, which would indicate miscarrying naturally. If they don't go down enough then you will probably be offered methotrexate like I was. It's a strong medication so they don't like to give it unless they have to. Again, I am sorry you're going through this 💕 xx

Aw it’s okay, I’m fine really, I already have a healthy 11 month old boy so I’m very very lucky as it is, just want to get back to normal that’s all

Aw that's good! It's just so long winded isn't it. Hope it's all sorted for you soon ☺️ xx

I've had a pregnancy of unknown location too, and I was scanned even when my HCG was below 50- they did it to be cautious. My local EPU is very good though, they are very communicative and the care is amazing.

I had spotting and quite severe right sided pain, which is perhaps why they scanned me to be on the safe side, as ectopics can rupture at any time, not just when the pregnancy gets too big for the tube/ other non-uterine location.

On a positive note, I did conceive again fairly fast after that experience and I'm 30 weeks now. It's a hard thing to go through, but if TTC you can try again quite quickly, unless you end up needing the shot in which case they'll advise you when it's safe to TTC again.

lockdownbabyx · 04/03/2021 20:07

@ThisMammaCat I was shocked with how common it is, hadn't heard of it until I went through it. Congratulations on your pregnancy, not long left ☺️. I had to wait 3 months after having the injection before I could try conceive again xx

Hiiii just an update - my levels have now dropped to 16, so it must have been a natural miscarriage rather than an ectopic pregnancy. Just thought I’d leave an update incase anyone in a similar position comes looking for someone’s experience

Thank you all for this thread. I'm going through something similar and hoping it'll pass naturally soon

Hey can I get some help I found out I was pregnant. Was having some very lite spotting and cramping went to the ER my HCG levels where 874 then a few days later I went to another ER and they check my HCG levels and they where 543 and the er told me I was having a miscarriage. So I made appointment with my regular doctor to let her know and she check me said everything was closed and did my HCG levels and they went back up to 791 . I have not heard from the doctor yet has anybody else had that happen .

Lilylou16 · 23/02/2025 16:24

@AshtAmay what was your outcome if you don’t mind me asking? I’m going through something very similar atm x
