Cramps in first trimester

I'm really sorry- I'm that person that's completely freaking out and need some reassurance.

I'm 4+2 weeks (found out I was pregnant on Sunday) and I know cramps are normal but I'm just so bloody scared! I know worrying won't change anything but can anyone else share their experience of cramps in early pregnancy?

Context- we've been ttc for 18 months and we're all set for ivf etc and then this gave us a lovely surprise, so of course now I'm terrified!

Any advice appreciated 💕

Hey, @Justanothercyster I've had cramping on and off since I got pregnant - I'm now 20 weeks. It's so normal, as long as it's not too strong (I'd say weaker cramping than usual period cramping) but I know it's different for everyone.

Ronnii · 02/03/2021 12:17

Yes I had cramps that early, they became a comfort as I could feel something was happening, today I'm 6+1 and I've got no cramps which is worrying me.

Cramps seem pretty normal especially at 4+.

Hope it goes well for you

I've had cramps with all my pregnancies. Only difference was, the two miscarriages I had, the cramps were accompanied by blood

Justanothercyster · 02/03/2021 13:03

Thanks ladies, you have no idea how reassuring that is for me to hear. Really hoping this is it for me.

@Ronnii I remember you from a previous thread! I changed my username but I was Newbie0818, not sure if you remember me. Congrats on the pregnancy lovely x

Hey congratulations! I am 7 weeks and had cramps right up until last week, sometimes actually quite uncomfortable x

I also had cramps in early pregnancy, probably most noticeable from 4-6 weeks, very much like period cramps. They went away for a bit from around 6 weeks and come back every now and again. I have had the same anxiety as you and read a lot about it and it seems to be a good sign... means the muscles are stretching and baby is growing!

I don't know if this is correct or not but I also read that cramps due to miscarriage are because of blood and tissue passing through so if you're not bleeding then it's not likely to be due to miscarriage. That helped put my mind at rest.

Similar to what others have said. I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks, around 4 weeks I was experiencing on and off period-like cramps, maybe a bit lighter, assuming this was my period coming but it never came, as I was actually pregnant. Then 5-6 weeks I would get woken up in the middle of the night (always around 2.30am) with really bad cramps and would have paracetamol and start sweating, although I think it was me having a massive panic thinking it was a miscarriage that made the symptoms seem worse. I never bled though. I took a couple more pregnancy tests around this time just to prove to myself that I was actually still pregnant. Did a quick Google to find out early pregnancy cramps are completely normal and also if you lie down with your hips slightly elevated and knees bent up it tends to relieve the pain. 37 + 6 now and baby is absolutely fine :)

I had more cramping in my current so far successful pregnancy (30+4) than I did on my mmc. Obviously no one can tell you 100% it’s normal, but in my experience, the extra cramps were a sign my body was doing all the stretching and growing it needed for bubs. (Not that I had that frame of mind when I was experiencing it. A hell of a lot of anxiety that I don’t think properly eased until 24 weeks when she was considered viable)

Ronnii · 02/03/2021 15:14

Yes @Justanothercyster I think it was probably a pcos thread. Congrats to you too, so great it's happened before ivf. It happened for me on my first cycle using clomid 😄

BlueberryPancake21 · 02/03/2021 15:23

Congrats! I had cramping off and on throughout all of my PG - two losses one now 35 wks. In all of them they were more painful than a normal period and were happening long before anything went wrong so not an indication of MC in any way (did get cramping with MC but that was associated with bleeding). With this PG they continued up to around 20 wks or so but everything seems fine.

Kowhai13 · 02/03/2021 17:47

I had what felt like constant cramps all first trimester. Many felt like period cramps. Most were mild but sometimes they were quite uncomfortable and I got pretty worried. Everything was normal though and still get odd pain, twinge and ache at 19 weeks.

2021WillBeGreat · 02/03/2021 18:05

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and have had cramps most days since 4 weeks. I'm needing to take paracetamol more often than I'd like to help with them.

Pol96 · 03/03/2021 04:50

@Justanothercyster I'm so happy to see you on the pregnancy boards 😘 x

Justanothercyster · 03/03/2021 07:17

Thank you so much ladies, really helpful 💕

@Ronnii that's awesome! Ours was a total surprise 😱

@Pol96 just my anxiety in overdrive 😂 but also think I'm getting to grips with it now... though I HAVE taken a test every morning so far 🙄
