Missed Miscarriage

I am currently 12wks pregnant. I found out on Wednesday that my baby was measuring only 5.5wks and no heartbeat could be seen. I had a scan at 6.5wks and baby was measuring correct and a heartbeat was visible. The sonographer felt the baby stopped developing soon after this. If that's the case the baby has shrunk to a week less in gestation and my body has been carrying my baby for 5wks since it stopped growing. Still no sign of miscarrying. Has anyone heard of a body continuimg a pregnancy without miscarrying for this long and is it normal? In some ways I still feel connected knowing baby is still in there and in truth of rather not say goodbye, but I'm also worried about the later effects of carrying my passed baby for this long. Any advice welcome x

I'm sorry this has happened to you @Cienega, that's so sad. I had a mmc last year. I would have preferred to let nature take its course but it didn't seem to be happening so I tried medical management. That did cause me to pass the sac, but not much of the other tissue came out. Consequently, I went on to have the MVA procedure to remove it. When the gynae did that he said there was so much vascular activity in my uterus it could have been months before my body caught up and miscarried naturally, so I'm glad I had the intervention. It was several weeks from finding out id miscarried until it was all over and that limbo period was awful. I am sorry you are in this horrible, heartbreaking situation. Thanks

So sorry you are going through this OP! I too suffered a missed miscarriage and found out at my 12 wk scan which is heartbreaking. My body had ‘held on’ for 5 weeks too so I decided for both my mental and physical health to have an MVA. It’s such a hard decision and only one you can make unfortunately. Please don’t loose hope however, I gave birth to our rainbow baby 3 weeks ago. Sending a big hug xxx

I'm very sorry for your loss.
There is a support thread over in miscarriage and loss www.mumsnet.com/Talk/miscarriage/4166715-Support-thread-for-those-experiencing-or-recently-experienced-a-MC-MMC-Thread-3-ALL-welcome

There is a load of ladies all with different experiences. I had a MMC in January was 14 weeks babies heartbeat stopped at 9 weeks.
It's personal choice on what route you go down but there are different options.
In terms of harm its more your body will keep building on the hormone levels (HCG) which then means they can take a while to come back down. Also your uterus can still be stretching as your body doesn't want to let go.

I'm so sorry OP that hour going through this, same thing happened to me last summer, baby stopped growing at 9 weeks and found out at my 12 week scan, due to covid I was giving the tablets to help move thing along a week later nothing had happened so I was in for the D&C! I know it's a hard thing to go through but if you get the option go for the op as the waiting around for something to happen is horrible. I hope your ok and sorry again.

Hi OP, I'm sorry for your loss. It's a horrible time and feels so unfair and lonely.

I had a missed miscarriage between DC1 and DC2. Like you, my pregnancy hadn't progressed from about 6 weeks but I only found out when I started bleeding at 13 weeks. I hadn't yet had a scan so I went into hospital where it was confirmed. I started miscarrying without any medical intervention 5 days later.

I hope the next part goes as smoothly as it can for you and that you have lots of support. Flowers
