‘Open’ Cervix

Hey Peeps - this is my first time posting here. I’m currently 35wks and 4days with my third. My first is 11 y/o and my second is 7 y/o.

I went to the triage care at my local antenatal clinic last night, I genuinely thought I may have broken my waters (previous two pregnancies my waters were broke by midwife during active labour) - but this post isn’t about the fact I had just wet myself whilst vomiting. The midwife/nurse lady did a cervix check and she told me that my cervix was open ‘a little’, and that it meant nothing as I have had previous pregnancies and your cervix doesn’t always close properly when you have had babies before. Prior to this exam, I have been internally examined at the beginning of Feb and beginning of Jan by a Dr (who assured me my cervix was closed).

I have never ever heard anyone, or read anywhere or been told by any other health professional about having an open cervix because of prior pregnancies, and I just wanted to hear other people’s experiences? Because with the weeks of intense and irratic BHs, vomiting, extreme nesting 1am -4am, feeling like I’m ill, loss of appetite and all the other ‘wonderful’ experiences, I feel more like I’m in an extremely long and slow build up to labour.

It is very common to be 1 or 2 cm dilated from as early as 33/34 weeks. It doesn't really mean much.
I'm currently 35 weeks and 2cm dilated.
Had the same with my last pregnancy and still went to 42 weeks

Yes I was also told this when they were happy to send me home (40 mins away!) when I arrived at 4cm. I was in labour then though.

Side note. We didn’t go home. My waters broke as I walked out of the door and she was born an hour later.

I’m 35+5 with DC4 and lots of braxton hicks (sometimes periods of being every 10 mins for up to two hours), pressure, lightning crotch, he’s engaged etc etc. I’m convinced he’ll be early although I bet now he’ll be my first to go overdue!
