Anyone else with an older partner??

Hi all,

I’m 40 and just found out I’m pregnant with my 4th child. Although I’m older, it was planned. When deciding to have a 4th and final baby we only really discussed my age and the impact..

However tonight it’s hit me that my partner will be 47 once this little one is born. Making him 57 at 10 and 67 at 20! Now I’m panicking that we’ve been really irresponsible/selfish as this child could end up loosing a parent at a relatively young age.

Anyone else have children later in life??

I don’t think 47 is really, really old - I know a lot of men that have had children in their 40s, and even a few in their 50s. So I doubt it will be seen as particularly unusual, socially speaking. However there’s no getting away from the fact you may not have as many years of good health with your child as you would if you were in your early 30s. As one of 4 siblings though it sounds like they’ll never be short of love and company! Congratulations

My other half is 49, nearly 50 and I am 38 weeks pregnant. I’m not worried about him not being around. My own father died when he was 40. Anything can happen to anyone at anytime. There’s no sense I’m not living your life ‘just in case’.

Don’t overthink it. I don’t think that 47 is too told at all.
You can’t base life decisions on death. Some 20 year olds die too.

The way I view it is that a parent should still be in a good position to support children until the end of their education.

This child is very much wanted and will be dearly loved. Financially we are able to provide for 4 children and are both in good health right now.

I do tend to over think things!!
