Hello lovelies,

I had a swab done last week and the hospital rang me this morning to say I have strep B... She said that I'll need to have antibiotics as soon as my waters break and that's it! Does that mean I will have to give birth in the hospital instead of the MLU? Can I still have a waterbirth?? I read that I have to stay in hospital for a direction of time whilst the baby is monitored? Any information would be amazing!

Hi.
So you should still be able to have a water birth, they will just give you some waterproof protection as you'll have to be on a drip.
I'm not sure whether it means you will be able to give birth at the MLU or not. As both you and baby will be given antibiotics.
I would imagine it would still be possible

The stay for baby is usually just overnight too and not any longer

I have the same and the Midwife told me unless it is a very quick birth where the Antibiotics would not pass down to the baby for protection, they would not need to keep us at the hospital. If it is a very quick birth and they do not have the time to do the Antibiotics then they need to monitor the baby.

We have not talked about birth yet, so cannot comment on Hospital vs MLU but from what I read we would be able to have water birth unless there are other elements (irrelevant to Step B) that would prevent this.

I also have it, my midwife has confirmed that I will still be able to give birth in the MLU and have a water birth Smile . She also said we may need to stay in for up to 12 hours, but not definitely.

I had it and also had a water birth no problem at all.

I had strep B. Baby was born just before 10pm and we were allowed to leave at 6pm the next day.
