Not really sure what I'm hoping for by posting here but guess I just need to get this off my chest.

A bit about me. Been ttc almost 2 years. Had 3 early miscarriages and have an appointment soon with the recurrent miscarriage clinic. We had decided to use condoms whilst waiting for the appointment as I didn't want the heartbreak of another miscarriage.

Fast forward to today. My period is 6 days late. Tested twice yesterday and twice today. All 4 tests came back positive. One was a clearblue digital with weeks indicator which said conception occured 2-3 weeks ago. Thing is, that's impossible! Me and DH have been going through a rough patch and haven't had sex at all this cycle. Here is where it gets confusing. In my Jan cycle we did have spur of the moment unprotected sex. But my period showed up right on time, usual flow, usual duration etc. I did have a few days of random brown watery discharge that I only noticed when I went the toilet for a few days after my period ended. If I conceived from the unprotected sex in Jan, my LMP would put me at around 8 weeks pregnant.

I did call my GP today and she sent me for a blood test today to check my HCG levels and she said depending on the results of this would send me to the EPU for a scan. I have zero pregnancy symptoms besides a late period and tender breasts but that happens around the time I am due on anyway!

I'm just so confused. This never happened with any of the previous pregnancies that I lost. Could it be I am pregnant despite having what I thought was a period? Is it ectopic, is that why I had the period and brown watery discharge, is there some other medical condition I am yet to realise I have that is causing my HCG levels to rise? I'm just feeling so stressed and anxious about it all! Although we have been ttc its actually been a relief taking a break from it the last few months and I hadn't planned on trying again until later this year. With me and DH not being in the best place and some other things, now is the worst time for us to have a pregnancy stick!

Apologies for the ramble! I just needed to get this off my chest! Would be interested in hearing if anyone else has had a similar experience though and what the outcome was?

Sorry you're going through this.
I would think if you are 8 weeks, you would have some sort of sign/symptom of an ectopic by now.

There's a possibility that what you thought was your period was actually a miscarriage and the tests are still picking up the hcg.
Mine were positive for 6 weeks after mine.
There's also the chance it was a miscarriage but everything isn't gone.

Hopefully you'll get your answers ❤️
Sorry I can't be much help

Sorry to hear you are going through this, the limbo is hell.

I had a period and after a few days started getting bright red blood before coming on what I thought was another early period two weeks later, then had positive pregnancy tests. Unfortunately I was ectopic and out myself at 4 weeks but was actually 8 weeks along. Some people don’t have many symptoms and I had pain similar to period pains but didn’t feel unwell.

My hcg levels were quite low so it wasn’t picked up on a scan but my blood results were stagnant which made them think something was wrong. I really hope this isn’t the case for you and have my fingers crossed for you.

Thank you @SnooperTrooper12345 and @Chica1990 for your kind messages. Just an update, although not really as still nothing new to report! Still not having any pregnancy symptoms or anything to lend more weight to thinking its ectopic. Rang my GP for blood test results but they haven't been received yet to they advised to call again tomorrow. So still in limbo. I have my appointment with the recurrent miscarriage clinic on Monday so was kind of hoping I would have some answer by then.

When I had an ectopic, yes I had brown (v dark sometimes black) bleeding. Also I was fainting and had one sore breast.

Hope you're ok.

I'm in a not dissimilar situation - see my own thread on the topic! Although for me it's possible that I conceived this month. I also have no pregnancy symptoms except the weird bleeding a month ago and ongoing pressure on one side of my pelvis. Following for any updates.

LexiP88 · 26/02/2021 14:39

@ShampooForMyRealFriends hope it all works out for you.

My GP rang and said my HCG levels were suggestive of a pregnancy of 2-3 weeks which doesn't add up with my date of when me and DH last had unprotected sex. So I'm guessing I did conceive last month but it's another miscarriage and my body is just being weird with me having a normal period last cycle and being late this cycle. GP has asked me to arrange a scan at the EPU but with the clinic hours they run this more than likely won't happen until next week now.

I'll keep updating in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situ in the future and stumbles across this thread

I'm also hoping that me being pregnant/miscarrying won't have messed up the blood tests I had 2 weeks ago for the recurrent miscarriage clinic. They took so much it would be a pain to have to redo!

Just an update should someone comr across this in the future and wonder the outcome.

  • Last Weds I had my HCG levels done via blood which were showing very low for how pregnant I should be.
  • EPU repeated bloods on Mon and my HCG levels came back very similar
  • On Tues I had a Transvaginal Scan at the EPU and the sonographer queried an ectopic pregnancy on my right ovary and recommended another scan with a Consultant
  • On Weds I had bloods again. HCG levels still static
  • On Thurs had another Transvaginal Scan and consultant saw something next to my ovary which she thought was highly suspicious of an ectopic pregnancy. She recommended checking my bloods once more. If HCG had significantly reduced I could go with Expectant Management but if not Medical Management with Methotrexate
Today - Bloods still static and about to have Methotrexate at hospital

Emotionally I feel fine as I had my appointment with the recurrent miscarriage team this week too so feeling happy that we have a treatment plan for future pregnancies. Thank you to everyone who commented :)

Sorry it took a while to get some answers @LexiP88 but glad to hear they made a plan of action anyway and can avoid surgery. Hope you’re doing ok x

Sorry to hear you went through this @LexiP88, there's a great support group for those TTC after ectopic on here. I'd recommend joining it, it's really helped me.
