So I am deathly afraid of needles but since being pregnant not so bothered about this, but I have to have a glucose test on Tuesday as I'm just over the line of where they start testing and I'm so nervous to fast for 12 hours and have bloods taken the drink the drink that people say is horrendous please tell me its not that bad!❤

I was simillar to you, hated blood tests etc but coped with them during pregnancy. The test isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought. The fasting made me feel a bit crap but took food with me so I could East ASAP. Just make sure you keep drinking if you are allowed. The drink differs but mi e was tropical flavoured this time and quite pleasant. The lucozade was awful but they don't use this anymore. The worst thing for me was sitting for so long, so just take a couple of decent magazines or an audio book. Good luck!

I found it ok. I don't like any drinks apart from water and Diet Coke but this stuff was drinkable. Good luck!

I just had mine recently. I actually quite liked the drink. It was orange flavour and not that bad at all.
Fasting was ok as I had the test at 9am and 11am. I just had to sit waiting, then I ate straight after.

I fasted for 20 hours most days before getting pregnant, 12 hours is nothing. You do see a few struggle with it when having the GTT but not many as a percentage.
The drink is not bad at all. It's just a super boring 2 hour wait between blood tests.
Take something with you to eat as soon as the 2nd lot of bloods are done.

Our hospital is doing a single blood test for gestational diabetes at the moment (due to covid as they don't want people hanging around for hours) which doesn't involve the usual horrible drink. Maybe double check yours won't be the same

SnooperTrooper12345 · 20/02/2021 20:56

My hospital was just fast from 9pm and then just a single fasting blood test.
Most hospitals seem to be doing this at the minute due to Covid.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 20/02/2021 20:57

Have they told you you'll be doing the 2 hour wait?

LauEli · 20/02/2021 21:52

The drink tastes nice if you have to have it 😊

ScottishStardust · 20/02/2021 21:55

I thought the drink tasted quite nice! It reminded me of the juice you get in the bottom of a calipo tube, once it's melted.

Regarding the blood samples, my veins aren't great and some people struggle to get blood out of me! However the nurse that took my bloods, got it first time both times! I suspect this is down to the fact she's taking bloods half dozen times a day minimum!

Thank you all for your replies been very helpful, my letter says the test over all will take 2 and a half hours but I wonder if it will be quicker due to covid also do they leave the needle in your arm or re poke you to take more bloods, also glad to hear the drink doesn't taste bad, thanks again ladies

No, they won’t leave the needle in your arm!

Inkpaperstars · 21/02/2021 10:50

Just look away when they do the blood test, if you are lucky you might not even feel it.

You go in, they do a blood test, give you a drink, you drink it and then they send you into the waiting room or possibly your car to sit doing nothing for 2 hours. They then call you in for your second blood test and that's it
Emmaa124 · 23/02/2021 09:58

All done ladies wasn't bad at all thank you for your replies

They take 1st from 1 arm then 2nd from the other arm.

Chelyanne · 23/02/2021 10:01

Fingers crossed your results come back within normal ranges.

Emmaa124 · 23/02/2021 10:47

They said they will take from same arm for me as I am hard to bleed and only found a good vein in one arm
