I am having a continuous phlegm problem. Am currently 12 weeks pregnant and this phlegm isnt leaving me. I think it started ard 8th week.
Pleasee..anybody who went through this kind of problem ..situation..please share..your experience and solutions. I am trying everything I can. This is making my pregnancy a worst nightmare. I could not even sleep nor eat nor drink water ..properly. it feels like something has stuck in my throat. or someone is holding my throat tightly. I know its all hormones/ acidity/ reflux from stomach..as its expanding and its pushing up the gases..and a lot burps. But this is not helping me at all..stayed away from cold foods sweets .. and too spicy food. I think I am getting this phlegm for every 5 sec or so. I spoke to the doctor and all they recommended is saline nasal spray. No medications as it might be a risk in pregnancy. Docs aren't too familiar with this kind of problem.

I came across this page ..thought it might give everyone an idea abt my problem.which is similar to this below link.-

Hello @Berrysweet060628 and congratulations on your pregnancy!

This sounds so much like me!! I'm currently 19 weeks and pretty much from the start of my pregnancy was suffering with lots of phlegm build up as well as a feeling of a permanently blocked and stuffy nose!! It got so bad I'd be retching all the time - sometimes mid-conversation with people Blush!!

Like you, I struggled to find much help or advice but one thing someone at work suggested was chewing gum - a very minty one! That helped clear it temporarily, or when it got bad I'd also have bard boiled sweets to suck and that would help to ease it a little too. I also tried hot water with lemon, again that would help clear it. All of these were temporary and it would usually come back - but in the moment I found them very useful!

I can say now, whilst I still suffer with a blocked nose on and off, the phlegm in my throat has cleared and I'm no longer retching (thank god!!!).

Hope this helps and best of luck! Xx

I had this with both of my pregnancies and it was utterly miserable, I used to have glacier mints and peppermint iced tea. Nothing took it away though just made it a bit better. It did eventually subside. Hope you feel better soon.

It could be allergies?

About 5 years ago I randomly developed allergies, it’s basically like hay fever with an itchy mouth and eyes, and I sneeze a lot and have a lot of phlegm. I take an antihistamine every day which does the trick.

I’ve found that it seems to get worse in pregnancy, I’m 6 weeks, but is still milder than if I wasn’t taking the antihistamine. I take cetirizine hydrochloride and it’s safe to have in pregnancy xxx

I have the same problem!! I feel like I need to cough it up all the time! Just feel so uncomfortable and sometimes I find it really hard to breathe properly because of it. Unfortunately haven’t found anything that helps yet :(

I have this and if I shout our teenager down for tea it makes me gip, always feel congested and snotty too. Pregnancy rhinitis is what I found online, seems it sticks around until after birth too. 1st time having it, 5th pregnancy past the 1st trimester. Just going to have to lump it.

I wish we all get a perfect solution from it. Even the docs aren't able to diagnose it..considering the present situation its hard to go to hospital. I bough chewing gums..hope it helps..but I could not chew it for long enough. It gives me nausea. I did try the lemon...always stuck to warm water..oh god..because of this am scared of getting pregnant.

I suggest you to try this after you drink lemon +salt water(very slowly touching your throat) try this " very warm water + carom seeds + a lott salt..gargle making sure the mix reach the throat..and spit it out..dont drink at any cost. I tried this recipe..it did clear temporarily..but l found it to be bit usefull as later all I had is kinda saliva..nothing phlegm or mucus. but now..I feel like my body forgot what saliva is like..am teaching my body about saliva through chewing gum..its bit helpful..but the struggle is real..and its still killing me.
