Cervical Smear When Pregnant

Hello ladies,

I received an invite to book my cervical smear today, but I'm coming on 29 weeks pregnant. Do any of you know if you can have it during pregnancy (particularly 3rd trimester) or if I should wait?

Thanks! X

I was invited for one at around 12 weeks, checked with midwife and she said to rebook after baby is born and 6 week check is complete x

I was told to wait until 4-6 Months after birth, but I’ve never had any worrying smear results so may be different in that case

The invitations are automatic, you won’t be able to have it pregnant. You can ask the surgery to send it again once you’ve had baby. :)

Perfect thanks ladies, I didnt realise they're automatic so kind of assumed that my GP knows I'm pregnant so wouldn't send it if it wasn't alright to have Hmm

No you can't have it. You must be twelve weeks post natal too. National guidelines.
Practice nurse.

And the letters are usually centrally sent, although may have your GP's details on they don't come directly from the practice.

I think it's at least 3 months after birth that you can go. The results are not as reliable when done during pregnancy.
Mine is due around my due date so will be pushed back to later in the year.

As PPs have said, you can't have it whilst pregnant. It has to be 12 weeks after 😊

I had 2 when pregnant but that was due to bleeding and then trying to work out what was causing it. I think you can choose to wait though.
