I’ve been told today my baby is quiet a lot above average at 4lb. Anyone else?

Don't worry, they're not always accurate.

I don't remember being given weight estimates with our singletons but with our twins I do. They were estimated at 5lb each at 32wk, they were delivered at 38wk weighing 8lb 5oz & 8lb 11oz. Fab weights and well above the average og around 6lb, I didn't expect small babies after having 2 singletons before them at 10lb 12oz (40+5) & 9lb 10oz (40+2) who were above average on scans. Our eldest was pretty average on scans and only 7lb 7oz (39+6), she's still on the smaller side at 15yrs.

I got told my son was about 7lb at 37 weeks and he was born just over 6lb at 39 weeks so unless he shrank its not always a good guide. He did have long thighs though which they measure as part of the weight estimate so I blame them!

Is that much above average?

Highly non-scientific but at 30 weeks my app suggests baby is 3.5lb and growing at a max of 0.5lb per week, meaning she would be 8.5lb ish at birth.

Also, I had a growth scan at 34 wks in my first pregnancy and was told to expect a 9-10lb baby. She arrived at 39 weeks under 7lb. They're not always accurate.

I wouldn't worry OP.

Scans are not always reliable in terms of predicting birth weight.

And even if they are 'above average' that's fine, some babies are above and some below!

Mine were both predicted to be big and were born 10lb at 40 weeks and 8lb at 35 weeks Smile no problems with either, just big babies!

I had a 32 weeks growth scan. Baby estimated at 4 lbs 11 and somewhere just above 50th centile?

But yeah, take all measurements with a grain of salt until baby arrives!!
