Chance of miscarriage at 5/6 weeks after bleeding and small gestation sac

Hi everyone šŸ™‚

This is my first time posting here but I’m just desperate for some advice. My LMP was 6.1.21 which would put me at 5 weeks + 6 days pregnant.

Yesterday I experienced light bleeding and then today it was slightly heavier (not quite enough to fill a pad over the day) along with mild cramps. The bloody discharge varies between brown and pink. I called the early pregnancy unit this morning and they fit me in for an scan later the same day.

Via an internal scan, they found a gestational sac measuring 2.7mm with no yolk sac or fetal pole visible and therefore placed me at less than 5 weeks. They have arranged for me to go back in 10 days for another scan so they can then give me an answer as to if I’m having a miscarriage or not. They put the odds at around 50%

I am so worried because we have been trying to conceive for serval months, my cycles are always 29 days and I was monitoring ovulation (occurring on day 15) so to be less than 5 weeks seems impossible to me.
Considering I would have been 6 weeks the day after my scan, wouldn’t the gestational sac be bigger? Shouldn’t the yolk sac and fetal pole be visible? Could is be possible that I am less than 5 weeks even though I’ve been logging all my dates? Or could the gestational sac have stop developing a week ago meaning a miscarriage and placing at me at less than 5 weeks?

Any advice or similar stories would be hugely appreciated. I have no idea how I can wait 10 days to find out what’s happening.

Thank you x

Hi There, how did this work out for you? Just came across this post as I am going through the same thing now with a small gestational sac at 6 weeks.

Hey I seen your post and wondered what your outcome was? I’m currently going through something similar and waiting for another scan..

Hi Highlandttc, - Sorry for the delayed response, I did end up having a miscarriage at 7weeks+4. Hope you are getting on ok.

I also had a miscarriage, devastating but got to remain positive for whenever it hopefully happens again!
