Hiya, Ive had cramps/pains on and off for about 2 weeks now ( now accepted these are part of late pregnancy , Ive had a sweep, lost mucus plug/had a show and at 40 + 3 days still very much pregnant and no sign of labour. How long after everyone else had sweep or show did they start? This is my 2nd baby. Thanks, hope everyone else ok.

HI Ale,
Bumping this as I'm in a similar position...

I'm 41 weeks today, and like you, lots of cramps/pains/tightenings/braxton hicks over past 2-3 weeks, including a couple of 1-2 hour sessions of fairly regular contractions (every 10-15 minutes building to every 5 minutes, then stopping ).

Haven't had a show (that I know about) or any intervention yet (seeing consultant on Tuesday if still nothing...) - do you have to have had the show before having a sweep?

This is my first, and confess to feeling really down and depressed - massively uncomfortable, and really thought I would be holding by bubs by now, not still be huge (and getting huger by the day). Feel quite humiliated too for some reason - and the barrage of daily calls/texts saying 'any news? though you were due ages ago, blah blah... has got me so down I've now turned my phone off.

Really hoping to avoid a drug-induction as I've heard such horrid things about it, but beginning to think this will never start on it's own...

Really really this morning, after anther sleepless night and absolutley nothing changing.

DB
xx

Hiya designerbaby, no you dont have to have a show before having the sweep, I think some people only have a show when actually in labour. Keep expecting every pain to turn into labour but still nothing!! Hopefully they will give you a sweep on Tuesday and start things off.
Good luck.xx

Ever heard the term a watched pot never boils??!!! Sorry, I sympathise entirely, all of my dc were late, 12 days, 3 days and 7 days and I was induced with my first, it was OK, baby will be here soon. So sorry to hear that you're becoming down about it, friends only mean well - I take it they don't have kids? you'll wake up one morning with period pain and that afternoon, baby will be here!!!! Thinking of you both.

Oh I do sympathise! This last bit's the absolute pits! If it makes you feel any better, I went to bed at 40+3, upset that I was still pregnant. Fell asleep at midnight, woke up 2 hours later to find my waters were going, DD was born at 6.30 that evening! No show, period-type pains, sweep, nothing. You never know, it just might take you by surprise!

Good luck!

Can I join in? I'm 41+6 and am as sick as a chip too. Midwife tried to do a sweep on Friday, but couldn't as my cervix was posterior and hadn't dilated at all.
No twinges, show, etc. Just feels like a bag of shopping is pressing on my bladder. Babs is still happily wriggling about as I type.
Off to hospital to be induced tomorrow, if nothing happens today.

Good luck for tommorrow Eaglebird, hopefully you'll go into labour tonight though so no need to be induced!

woke up at 3am this morning with more cramps/discomfort, coming about 20 minutes apart. I've been getting them all day now anything from 10 minutes to 20 minutes apart, they havent fallen into a regular pattern yet but have got much more painful and each one is lasting longer. Please tell me I am in labour and give me advice on how to speed things up!! (40 + 6 days now)

Well it was labour and things did speed up!!Just got back from hospital with beautiful baby boy called Harry (8lb 10z). Contractions got stronger soon after my last post ( followed pruners advice re nipple stimulation!! ), went down to hospital at 11.45pm and had him at 4.25 yesturday morning. He has a cleft lip which wasn't picked up on any scans but they have reassured us that it can be easily sorted and his palate etc isnt affected which is good. A lady from Booth Hall childrens hospital in Manchester is coming tommorow to talk us through what will happen. Good luck to all you ladies still waiting for the arrival of your babies, its such a fab feeling when they are here. Thanks everyone who has helped and given me advice through this pregnancy.x
