38 week growth scan

Hello, I saw my midwife today and measuring my bump baby has dropped from the 97th centile to the 10th so has referred me for a growth scan which I’m having on Thursday. She did say it could just be because baby has gone from not engaged to engaged to 2/5 since my 36 week appointment. Has anyone had this? I have heard that measuring the bump isn’t the most accurate way of doing it. Also I’ve not had a scan past 20 weeks before can you go with an empty bladder to a scan at this stage? I’m not sure I could hold a pint of water 😅

Yes any scans past 20 weeks they don’t ask you to have a full bladder due to baby’s size it’s not necessary. Which is fantastic as past a certain point you need to wee every 2 minutes :)

Regarding bump measurements, I was referred for extra scans as my bump was measuring too small. I ended up with a 10lb baby so not an accurate measure at all in my case!

Bump measures are defo not always accurate, they obv do them for a reason but i alwaya take what they say with a pinch of salt. My LO was measuring small and came out nearly 9lb.

@KB13 Take all measurements with a pinch of salt OP! I was pushed for induction because DC1 was going to be “huge” going by growth scans. Estimated at 10.5-11lbs by 40 weeks.
He was born on his due date at 8lb 11oz!
Growth scan will let them check that blood flow across the placenta etc is all fine though just incase there’s any issue there 😊 as midwife said though, it’s likely that baby is just moving down ready to make an escape 😊

Fundal height is an outdated thing really. It's rare for something to actually be wrong.

My first baby I had my fundal height measured 3 times in 2 weeks and went 10th percentile, 76th and then 2nd.
Growth scans, nothing wrong at all.
