8 weeks & worried

I am pregnant following an early mc in july. I am 8 weeks today.

I have had hardly any symptoms. Early on, certain things like the bin and toilets were making me gag when they normally wouldn't. Thats gone now and ive had no real nausea or sickness. My breasts definitely feel fuller and my nipples are darker. Other than this I feel completely normal.

My midwife said i wouldn't be entitled to an early scan on the nhs because i havent had 3 or more miscarriages. I have paid for a private scan on thursday evening and am so nervous.

I had managed any anxiety quite well until now. I am telling myself if anything is wrong there's nothing i can do to change it so may as well not stress but struggling today and not slept.

Anyway, any symptomless successful pregnancies?
Thank you

I know loads of people who had barely any symptoms. This stage is hard, it’s a very anxious time, but you also have to remember that nothing is guaranteed- I have a friend who had very strong symptoms and when she went for her 12 week scan found that baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. So even if you had symptoms it doesn’t necessarily mean all is plain sailing.

I am in my third pregnancy nowp and have found that there’s always something to worry about! Just try to take it easy. Congratulations x

@kent1991 I know exactly how you feel. I had 2 previous losses, last one was a MMC in June last year. I also wasn’t offered an early scan by NHS because I haven’t suffered mc 3 times...ridiculous rule. I am booked for 8 week private scan this weekend. Since the beginning I have sore boobs that feel like they’re bruised or something. Up until a week ago I had almost period like mild cramps every day, that seems to have eased off. So far I had no nausea at all. Other than that certain things smell a bit different to me but nothing drastic.
I sincerely hope everything is developing as it’s supposed to this time 🤞

kent1991 · 16/02/2021 08:17

Thank you both for your advice. Thats really kind. @Katie1109 yes I've had few mild cramps too. I hope your scan at the weekend goes well. Im just going to try and stay busy til then i guess.
Thank you both

I had sore breasts and nausea up until around 6 weeks, then it all vanished, no nausea, no tenderness, absolutely nothing. I worried myself silly that I'd lost the baby. My nausea and breast tenderness came back around 18 weeks, I'm now 20 weeks and baby is doing great.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 16/02/2021 09:49

I've never had symptoms in all 5 of my pregnancies apart from the occasional feeling tired and sore boobs that come and go week to week.

Symptoms aren't an indication of how well the pregnancy is going. Even if they disappear completely and they certainly won't scan you for lack of symptoms because this is normal

Moominmiss · 16/02/2021 10:09

@kent1991 I know the feeling of worry after a loss.

I’m currently 8+2 after 4 miscarriages in the last 12 months.

I was lucky enough to be given an early scan with the EPU at 5+4 and saw a heartbeat. But that didn’t reassure me for long, as I also had private scans at 6+2 and 7 weeks, and am also booked for a scan on Thursday evening, and then another for 9+6.

I also have very little in the way of symptoms. Only extremely mild nausea occasionally in the evenings, tiredness, tender boobs, and a stuffy nose. I had mild cramping in the earlier weeks, but that’s subsided and now I occasionally feel things stretching and pulling.

I have 3dc already and I just keep telling myself that I had no symptoms with any of them either and I’m trying to count myself as lucky!

Congratulations, and good luck for thursday. I’m sure everything will be perfect. It just totally sucks that a previous miscarriage really can ruin the whole experience of pregnancy going forward.

Xx

kent1991 · 16/02/2021 10:45

Thank you to you all. My mum keeps telling me she didnt have a single symptom with any of her 3 kids so hopefully im just lucky. I feel a bit more clear headed this morning.

You are right symptoms dont really indicate anything, i too have a friend who has high sickness but had a missed miscarriage.

I guess i can only wait and nothing i do will change the outcome. Hard to keep truly busy in lockdown! And i have this week off work so lots of time to think lol x

@Moominmiss so sorry you've had to gi through all that but hopefully scans help "chunk" the waiting so it doesnt seem so long. Im thinking of booking another just before 12 weeks so my partner can come. Expensive but worth it hopefully x

I had a mc in July too. It was my 2nd after having our twins (5th over the years). I had a private scan at 8+3 which confirmed a hb but I still felt very uneasy about the pregnancy, I lost that one at 9+3. I felt pretty normal during that pregnancy.
I got bfp with current one in December, after the last I decided not to have a private scan and wait for dating. I've had lots of strong symptoms this time, they were so bad I honestly expected to see twins on my scan. It was a very long 8 weeks between bfp and scan day. I'm glad I waited as baby was very active on my dating scan (not great for pics tho) unlike the private scan with previous where the only movement was the flickering of it's heart.

Good luck with your scan.

kent1991 · 16/02/2021 11:10

@Chelyanne great to hear you've had a successful dating scan now. Thanks for sharing your story xx i will update you when I've had my scan x

Can't wait until my 12 weeks now but this has been a big reassurance! Thanks for your support when i was feeling worried xxx

@kent1991 so happy for you! Congratulations 🎉 x I am hoping for the same result tomorrow morning x how far along are you?
Have you still got no symptoms? x

kent1991 · 19/02/2021 09:05

@Katie1109 hi, im 8 weeks and 4 days. Honestly not really. My boobs have grown and been sore sometimes...but not super sensitive like some people describe. A few times things like the bin have made me gag a bit but no sickness or nausea.

I have been tired but work has also been quite busy so part of me wonders if id be tired anyway. Maybe bit more tired than usual.

Hope yours is ok. People keeo telling me it must be a boy cos i have no symptoms. I think thats an old wives tale but who knows x

@kent1991 ahh that’s brilliant! So glad you’re scan went well. I had mine yesterday too.

Was amazing. Baby had grown so much from my 7 week scan. It was wriggling and dancing and waving it’s little arms. The sonographer was so thorough. Showing us the spine, brain, fingers etc. Was just fab. This scan put me ahead a day and measured 8+5 yesterday, but I’m sticking with my dates for now as they change so much early on so I think I’m 8+5 today, not 8+6.

Now counting down until my next scan 🙈😂

kent1991 · 19/02/2021 17:10

Ah great news @Moominmiss
Sounds lovely, such a relief and feeling great about it now

@kent1991 hiya. Try not to worry. I understand its nit easy. How did the scan go. Fingers cross

Katie1109 · 20/02/2021 17:23

@kent1991 just thought I’ll let you know that my scan also went well x I’m measuring bang on 8 weeks as I’m supposed to with lovely strong heartbeat x baby measures 15.4mm 🥰 what did your measure at 8+4?
I’ve still got very minimal symptoms and would love a boy if that’s the case! But in all honesty as long as it’s healthy I don’t care x

Moominmiss · 20/02/2021 19:48

@Katie1109 great to hear that you also had a great scan!

My scan report detailed the crown rump length as 20.6mm, measuring 8+5.

Just can’t wait until my scan next weekend now. See how much baby has hopefully grown!

kent1991 · 20/02/2021 20:58

Great news all round then super. My crown length rump was 1.87mm meaning 8 week 3 days!
Now waiting until 12 weeks but tempted to book a scan a few days before so ny partner can come in so I wont mind being alone in the hospital so much

OP posts:
kent1991 · 20/02/2021 20:59

Sorry 1.87 cm

Katie1109 · 21/02/2021 08:17

@Moominmiss and @kent1991 thank you girls x it’s such surreal thing to know little bean is growing around 1mm a day!
We have booked another private scan for 10 weeks and I most certainly will have another one just before my 12 weeks scan if my OH won’t be able to come with me to my NHS one x

SamBass · 21/02/2021 11:12

Hello all
Its so lovely to hear positive stories from those who have had early scans. My early scan is on 9.3.21 when i will be 8+4, i feel like its too far away! Im a nervous wreck with worry. Im 6+2 now and the past two days I've had no symptoms, but up until then i had nausea, sore boobs and bad fatigue. Now nothing...I can't help but worry 😞

kent1991 · 21/02/2021 13:37

@sambass i think its natural to worry but so common.i think pregnancy is always portrayed as people will have LOADS of symptoms but not everyone will i think. I still dont have any symptoms but having seen the baby growing was so reassuring. Sending you best wishes and just try and rest and relax. I did a bit of pregnancy yoga when i felt worried by it. X

@kent1991 thank you so much for your reply, I'm doing my best not to worry but it's difficult. I think I'm worse because i had loads of symptoms then nothing so its the change thats made me confused. Just need to get by until my early scan on 9.3.21

kent1991 · 21/02/2021 14:37

@SamBass yeah thats understandable. You could contact your local Early pregnancy unit but they would likely say they dont need to scan you unless if you have bleeding or very strong cramps. I know people whove had symptoms subside and its not been an issue :) i think early weeks i was weeing more and my tiredness has probably reduced. But if youre worried contact your EPU or midwife xxx
