Is this the start of a miscarriage? Pic warning

I'm 8+6 and had dark brown stringy discharge around 6 weeks. I had an early scan and all was fine - saw the heartbeat.

I've had cramps all through my pregnancy but they seem worse today (although they're not horrendous, and I can't imagine they're like contractions.

I went to the loo earlier this afternoon and there was dark brown watery liquid when I wiped. I've just been to the loo again and this was there when I wiped. I've included a pic of my smallest fingernail to show the size.

Does it look like the start of a miscarriage?

When I had my miscarriages they both started with really red blood so what you show hasn't been my experience. I have my fingers crossed for you

Wireless77 · 15/02/2021 20:52

It might be completely normal. Might be some leftover implantation blood/placenta starting to take over. Did tell you what may have caused your previous bleed like a hematoma? The fact that it's brown is reassuring, might be old blood from previous bleed. Scan is the only way to tell really, but don't lose hope. x PS! Cramps can be totally normal.

Cafeaulait27 · 15/02/2021 20:56

When I had a mc at 9 weeks it started like this about 2 weeks before. It was on and off and didn’t turn red for about a week. But if you had this before and then had a successful scan it could be bleeding for another reason.

Are you able to have another scan at all? Xx

MooreLew · 15/02/2021 21:18

I had a cervical ectroption and it looked like this. Have they checked you for one?

Chickoletta · 15/02/2021 21:20

My miscarriages began with bright red period type blood. There are lots of normal reasons why you may have had this discharge. Fingers crossed for you. Try to get a scan to set your mind at rest.

Viviennemary · 15/02/2021 21:28

I was always told bright red blood a danger sign. Brown blood/ discharge usually ok. But keep alert if it changes or gets worse.

paradyning · 15/02/2021 21:34

All 3 of mine started with brown blood like this. From other posters experiences, it could be anything. Can you call your early pregnancy unit and get checked?

SenoraSurf · 15/02/2021 22:08

Sorry OP but mine also started like this. Had some brown tinged CM during the day and had that by evening which then got heavier.

Fingers crossed for you.

What a worrying time. In both of my successful pregnancies, I've had bleeding like this through the first 12 weeks - and much heavier. Even a bright red bleed in my second. I was so convinced I was miscarrying I went to the pub and had a pint!

Just wanted to share some experience from a positive side. The EPU should see you if you call and tell them you've had a bleed.

Ella267 · 15/02/2021 22:16

Thanks all.

They didn't tell me what caused the previous discharge - I think they mentioned they thought it was implantation bleeding.

I've already had 2 early scans. I had the first one when the discharge started around 6 weeks and had to go back a week later to check that everything was ok. It was at the second scan that I saw the heartbeat. I've got my 12 week scan in 3 weeks time, so not sure if I should just wait for that?

I've had it with all my pregnancies between 5 and 7 weeks.
Been checked before and they've said it's leftover blood from implantation.
As long as its brown or pink, it isn't really a worry

Eleoura · 15/02/2021 22:49

Unfortunately, all 3 of my MC's started with brown spotting, which slowly progressed to be more red and heavier. I'd seen a HB with 2 of them also! In saying that, brown is often old blood, so could be from the previous bleeding. Did you have intercourse yesterday/lastnight? This might have dislodged old blood.

See how the bleeding goes tomorrow, but I'd be calling the EPU for a scan for peace of mind. 3 weeks is a long time to wait!

Ella267 · 15/02/2021 23:10

I haven't had much more tonight and it seems to have stopped now.

I think I'll call the EPU tomorrow and see what they say - just seems quite extreme to be in the position where this would be my fourth scan before the 12 week mark (I had an early private scan as well). There's a part of me that thinks going for another scan won't change the outcome, so I might as well wait. Or maybe it's that if I wait for the 12 week scan at least there's still hope.

Fingers crossed there's no more bleeding tomorrow.

Sorry to echo others but mine started brown too. I googled endlessly and pretty much everything says not to worry if it's brown but in my case it was and mine gradually went red . I hope it's not the case for you. Could you contact your EPU or midwife?

Ella267 · 17/02/2021 10:39

Just a quick update.

I had a scan this morning and everything was fine. The baby has grown since my last scan and the heartbeat is still there - we even saw him or her do a kick!
