im 30 wks and with a 3 year old hyper active toddler and my husband is away until til 2 wks before my due date. These last few weeks ive constantly felt like im run down im just recovering from a cough and sore throat. Ive had to wear pads because ive resorted to leaking wee every time i cough .And now i feel like ive picked up a cold which ds brought home from pre-school as he's been poorly too.Ive got back ache and to top it off feel like ive been kicked down below. I just feel swollen and bruised especailly around my clitorial area for some bizarre reason. I can really start to feel the baby getting bigger now and everything just feels like too much effort.Im snapy and tearful with ds it just feels alot worse then last time i feel like an old women....

rosebud - i am very nearly 32 weeks with number 2 and have a 20 month old and work. I completely understand.. I sailed through preg last time bar three months of horrendous morning sickness.

This time, niggly abdominal pains.
Virtually no sleep alot of the time.
Horrible sensations in the down below area.
Back ache, head ache, vomitting, gastric reflux.
Feeling heavy and knackered.

You are not alone.

rosebud - you poor thing. It is harder 2nd time because you have your first child to look after but it sounds like your pregnancy is just harder as well.

If it's any consolation I have also been feeling funny down below - feel like all the muscles are tensed up and swollen - I assume it is from the pressure of the baby's head (I am 34 weeks)

Do you have anyone else around that can give you some support? It is so hard to be doing everything on your own.

doing pelvic floor exercises like mad might help a bit with the weeing when you cough too

Lots of sympathy xx

i am 27 weeks with number 2, and yes finding it much harder. first time round i stopped work at about 24 weeks, and spent 4 months wandering round bluewater idly choosing baby stuff and drinking organic green tea with a pg friend.

this time i'm working 3 days per week, renovating a new house so living in chaos, looking after 6 year old, and as my dad helpfully pointed out the other day, i was "YOUNG" when i had my ds and am now an ancient 35 and everythign seems much harder work physically. am also with you on the swollen bruised thing which i have been wondering about as didn't happen with 1st preg and looks/feels odd.

feel like it should be easier.

i hereby give you permission to give yourself a break, i keep reminding myself to try to do so....

im so glad im not alone i was beginning to feel pathetic whinging about every ache and pain but its just so different to last time. And im also glad to know im not alone in the neither region-i had a look the other day and its looks like ive already had the baby all swollen and bulgier! Ive been going bed early so feel fine that way its just tiring having to drag this knackerd body around-i guess this is an insight into old age

Oh yes, the second one has been much worse for me. SPD since June, extreme fatigue, cramps etc etc and having a very active four year old to look after too. The first pregnancy was a doddle compared with this one - the birth was awful though so I'm hoping that since this pregnancy has been awful the birth will be a doddle... Got to look on the bright side, eh!

beeper · 02/11/2007 19:51

oh yeah......

Was 26 when had DS and now am 35 and feeling the burn....have been vomiting for 10 weeks straight. I can feel the SPD coming already
15+1 weeks and I also home-ed DS.

Although he did his own thing all afternoon today and I slept on the couch. At least I can say 'don't bother me' and you can't say that to a 2 yr old.

Heres gritting my teeth for the next 25 weeks.

FlightAttendant · 02/11/2007 19:59

Yes I thought the second would be easier, ha ha ha ha ha.

There were four years between them and this one was awful. I noticed everything much more - perhaps the first time it is all new and you take it as it comes, but the next time you just know what to expect and you sense it all before it even kicks in!

I had that gag reflex thing all through it really, a sense of smell that would floor me within a mile of garlic or my then-three year old's farts (sorry!) heartburn was about the same as the first, nausea was worse I think and went on till about 20 weeks minimum.

I put on much more weight, got stretch marks when I had none with Ds1...SPD, lots of that...I was a wreck!

Not quite recovered even now but do we ever really get back to normal? At least now I have 2 kids to show for it, so feel justified in being a wreck

Best of luck to you sweetie. I hope it only gets better for you.

aleciawalton · 02/11/2007 20:52

yes i'd say it is harder, dont know if its from already having been prego and body has changed or the toddler/kid you have to run after.

my first was easier in the sence my spd didnt come till 36 weeks and this time 18 weeks (have been told by physio not to do more then 10 of walking, ya right, ds is 20 months!) i could nap when ever as i didnt have to work (thanks dh... so lucky!!).
this time i do have more pains (defantly down bellow, sollen and much discarrge), baby kicks down ward i pee. he seems stronger then my last ds. heartburn like crazy... even with a glass of milk? but my moods are better this time.
im just counting down till baby comes, 11 weeks 6 days (i hope!) best of luck!!!

WriggleJiggle · 02/11/2007 21:01

2nd pregnancy was so much harder. Running round after a toddler was exhausting, I ached everywhere, felt sick, found it hard going.

On the positive side, giving birth the second time was a doddle, even enjoyable!

It does get better.
