Worrying

I am 6 weeks pregnant with my first child. I am so incredibly anxious all the time that I am doing something to harm my unborn baby, when everyone around me is telling me I am not. Is this normal? Did anyone else experience high levels of anxiety in the first trimester? I am quite an anxious person anyway but it is taking over my thoughts completely at the moment.

@EmilyAnne1994
I found out I was pregnant this week and I should be around 5+5 days.. I feel exactly the same!!!! 😓

I am so pleased it’s not just me! Trying to stop my mind racing, Google does not help. I need to stop searching for everything on there, as it tells you you’re doing everything wrong!

I’m 5+4 today and another person suffering with anxiety. I’m also feeling completely exhausted which is not helping the anxiety either! I think it’s normal providing it’s not completely all consuming. Worth having a chat with your Dr if hats the case I think. Congratulations on your pregnancy too! Smile xx

Congrats on your pregnancy Flowers

It's completely normal to worry Smile I had these thoughts in my pregnancy with DS last year. Constantly second guessing everything I did /ate. Can confirm DS is a happy and healthy nearly 4 week old Smile

Best advice I can give is to step away from Google! If you really need to find something out limit yourself to only looking on websites such as NHS and other official sources of info to follow, or asking your midwife when you get assigned one.

I also use an app called Worry Tree which helps me to put worries into perspective.

I'm in a very similar position to you, 6+1 with first baby and I think we're similar ages too as I'm 1993!

I'm also very very anxious for no reason, I have a private scan booked 2 weeks tomorrow and I can't stop thinking that I'm gonna get there and there won't be a baby! X

Lots of worry for me in the 1st trimester but that is more due to the number of 1st trimester miscarriages I've had. I was much more relaxed with my 1st baby.

emfl01 · 13/02/2021 15:43

I'm only 23... first baby I don't have a clue what I'm doing and what to expect but I'm so worried about all of it and I really do hope everything will be ok!
I keep getting quite a lot of discharge and keep running to the toilet because I think I'm bleeding 😓

Garman · 13/02/2021 16:13

What do you think you might be doing to harm it?

Chanel05 · 13/02/2021 16:14

It is very normal to worry. I had a mmc in my first pregnancy and thought that I'd only ever relax when my dd was born... she's now 21 weeks and now that I'm a mum, I worry more than ever!!

EmilyAnne1994 · 13/02/2021 16:36

Thank you everyone. You have made me feel better, I am trying not to worry but I am finding it quite difficult at the moment. We have booked an early scan so hopefully will feel better then.

In response to Garman, I am second guessing what I am eating (even though I know the foods to avoid list off by heart) and any products I’m using like moisturisers and things (even though most of them I have checked with my midwife and they’re not even mentioned to avoid on NHS website.) I think our minds are just our own enemy, especially with something so life changing. I am naturally an anxious person anyway, so I did expect it.

I don’t know if it’s normal, but I’m 6+4 and so so anxious. I need to step away from Google and try to relax. We’ve booked a private scan 2 weeks today. It’s going to be a long 2 weeks Sad

EmilyAnne1994 · 13/02/2021 17:42

I’m exactly the same! We are also 6 weeks, congratulations. We have also booked an early scan. I have just spoke to my auntie who is a psychologist and she has said to step away from Google so I think we need to take our own advice!
