Being induced tomorrow, having the balloon catheter. 5th baby, my 4th was induced and only took the pessary to get things going and I have quick labours, but the nerves are getting to me now 😳. Anyone had the balloon Catheter?

Just noticed you have no replies, I didnt have catheter, had pessary and drip so that was a bit intense. Sounds like yours should go fast again due to other births.

Best of luck with the birth, keep visualising your baby in your arms and you will get through it

I was induced on the 2nd February with baby no:2 and they attempted the balloon catheter. Two doctors tried to fit it but babies head was so low down it had pushed the cervix back and they couldn’t fit one in. I’m not going to lie I did have gas and air to fit it and because of the continuous attempts it was very uncomfortable and I’ve said if I have another induction I won’t be doing it again BUT many women have raved about it. In the end we went straight to the pessary which I wish I just had done in the start. Hope it goes well and good luck xxx

Hi, I was induced with the balloon catheter last week too, second time. Like @Britannah says it can be uncomfortable to fit and it also took a few goes for me, luckily they were able to successfully insert it eventually. It was effective and before long I was contracting fairly regularly and I got to 4cm dilated - first time it wasn’t quite so effective but still got me to 2cm which is all they need to then break your waters. In some women it’s enough to kickstart full labour. Just make sure you’ve got something to distract or help when it’s being put in (I just did deep breaths) and you’ll be fine!

Thanks for replies. They put me on monitor and I'm already contracting regular so they don't want to put the catheter in incase it makes me contract too fast... so I've had a sweep, and I'm still having the contractions, I can feel them but not painful yet. Very uncomfortable though.

Thank you for replies, I ended up just having my waters popped and a baby girl was born an hour later. Very fast!
