Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while! Hope your all doing okay

I am expecting my third and have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes ( never had it before ) and also had blood in my last urine sample but it's been confirmed I don't have a uti despite weeing ridiculously often. Anyone have any experience of any of this? I'm so worried and had no problems in my previous pregnancies x

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/05/2021 19:44

@TiredAlreadyOhDear, yes mine have each been a good few oz heavier than the last!

I have had a sweep before which was painless and really did the trick, i have also had a horrendous one so i am now really on the fence as to if i would take another!

My first was 5 days early so you never know!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/05/2021 20:03

HEADS UP

There is currently a next to me on amazon for £91

Mummy2O · 06/05/2021 20:19

@TiredAlreadyOhDear I had a couple of sweeps before I had my DS. They were fine. Not the most enjoyable experience by a long shot, but not that bad.

Foxglovesandlilacs · 06/05/2021 20:25

@TiredAlreadyOhDear you don’t have to have a sweep of you don’t want to, tbh of you go overdue by a week or two before having one, chances are your cervix will be more favourable and it won’t hurt as much.

Mine have all been different sizes, with my 6th being my biggest at 9lb, smallest was 5th at 7lb 9.

ElderMillennial · 06/05/2021 20:39

I couldn't find this thread and it just popped up in Active.

I hope everyone is doing well. Does everyone have dates set to go on mat leave?

I've been having a lot of braxton hicks, especially at night, along with restless legs and leg cramps.

Otherwise I do feel a bit more energetic and for anyone who has PGP, I recommend trying tubigrip. My physio sent some to me and it's helping.

I hope everyone is doing well.

b1990 · 06/05/2021 21:21

date all set - last week of June I finish and that'll come round so fast.

Physically I can't really complain - my 6ft frame is finally coming in handy and I've got another inch or so of 'torso space for baby to take up so I'm not too uncomfortable yet. However, baby is in 95%ile so sure that space will all get taken up.

Mentally I've had a tough week - can't shake feeling overwhelmed about buying everything n all the little decisions lead to other decisions which is knackering.

My anxiety's playing up too, and I keep imagining something is wrong. We went up the hospital as bubs hadn't moved much all day on Monday- on the monitor and drive home she was bouncing away, so I felt very silly but glad I checked. I hope I don't get in a 'tizz' and go in again tho, as 2 x movement checks and I won't be allowed in the MLU to give birth.

I can't wait to meet bubs tho - and give her a proper cuddle rather than a belly squeeze.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 06/05/2021 22:28

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE @Foxglovesandlilacs @Mummy2O thanks for the advice - I know I’m probs just overthinking thinks and I might be getting nervous about things that won’t even happen - will just have to wait and see I guess.

@ElderMillennial I’ve currently got mine set to my due date - as wasn’t sure when I’d want it and I work from home so thought I’ll just try and work upto as close as possible - however I can change the dates so if I think i need to finish early I can always move it. How about you?

Luckyelephant1 · 06/05/2021 22:45

@b1990 sorry 2x movement checks and they won't allow an MLU birth?! Where did you hear that? Is that an all round thing or just in your trust?

I've been into triage twice now for reduced movements and they never said anything about that to me. Sounds almost like a threat and could prevent women from going in to getting checked when they need to... it also seems a bit pointless when on most occasions the baby is moving absolutely fine, the mother was just being safe rather than sorry, and there's no reason to indicate the pregnancy being high risk? Why would that dictate that you can't have an MLU birth?

Sorry I'm not doubting you but just wondering the rationale for this and now I'm also a little scared I won't be able to give birth in my MLU.

b1990 · 06/05/2021 23:44

That's what midwife said to me. It was nearly 11pm so if I heard wrong or was anxious n sleep hazy then I apologise, I don't mean to misinform.

It might have been 2 x reduced movements, rather than 2 x checks.

I'm not sure about whether its general or trust... I'm in South West.

I agree with you tho, it is a bit of a deterrent so I'm hoping I've misheard it or got confused.
Especially with a baby life surely it's always better to be safe than sorry?

Especially when all other things are super low risk.

ElderMillennial · 07/05/2021 07:36

@b1990 Don't ever feel silly for going in. I'm a bit anxious too and I've been in a few times. I don't know what the rules are about MLUs but don't hesitate to go in if you're worried.

@TiredAlreadyOhDear I have set my mat leave for 23 June (as I will be 38 weeks then and the plan is to induce me around 38 weeks) but I'm on annual leave after 4 June so I have two full weeks after this week and then two weeks I'm doing half days.

I was getting a bit stressed with work and putting a date in the diary has helped.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 07/05/2021 08:11

If you have concerns you must get checked, just imagine if you didn't and you should have done Sad

Giving birth in the MLU isn't everything, you can have a perfectly nice birth on the ward!

Foxglovesandlilacs · 07/05/2021 08:25

I think it’s if you have 2 x reduced movements, so of you go in worried but the baby is actually fine then it doesn’t count. I’m in Sussex and that’s what it’s like here.

Luckyelephant1 · 07/05/2021 11:47

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE yes exactly you should always go in to be checked, so why on earth would there be a rule that says if you go in 2x or more to get checked you can't have an MLU birth? That's essentially encouraging mothers NOT to get checked.

@Foxglovesandlilacs that makes more sense, so not the number of times you go in, but the number of times there are actually reduced movements. I'll ask my midwife at my appointment next week what the deal is in my area.

sakura1982 · 07/05/2021 23:01

Hello, I just came across this thread, am 28 weeks with a due date 30 July with my 2nd, a girl this time.

PeanutButterFalcon · 08/05/2021 08:59

Hi @sakura1982

Has anyone else’s sickness returned? I thought I was over it!

OP posts:
TiredAlreadyOhDear · 08/05/2021 09:14

@PeanutButterFalcon weird you say that- I haven’t been sick however last night I had the feeling of reflux a few times and I was thinking I hope this won’t carry on hahaha!

ElderMillennial · 08/05/2021 09:16

I've been feeling a bit sick at night. I think it's mainly after eating.

Mummy2O · 08/05/2021 10:13

I've been feeling more refluxy of late which has made me feel nauseous again. Can't say I will miss this bit of pregnancy.

Has anyone started putting their hospital bag together? I can't for the life of me remember what I packed last time. Confused

PeanutButterFalcon · 08/05/2021 13:19

I can’t say I’ve missed it. I might try some gaviscon incase it is reflux but I think it’s sickness. I was enjoying being able to brush my teeth again and not needing to walk around with something to be sick into.

@Mummy2O not yet. I’ve been picking up snacks with the weekly shop though to go in it.

Can anyone recommend sheets for the next to me before i spend £20 on the branded ones! Lots of mixed reviews online about which actually fit / don't shrink in the wash

Warrickdaviesasplates · 09/05/2021 10:13

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE we have the Snuzpod next to me cot (is that the one you have?) we used mamas and papas standard cot sheets. Apparently that's what they used in the shop for display and they were the same size.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/05/2021 10:20

No sorry its a Chicco Next To Me

sakura1982 · 09/05/2021 11:45

I have had chicco next to me previously and ended up using it as a stand for a Moses basket instead. My son would only settle in the basket and not in the next to me. Though basket was good for up to max 4 months. He was 58 cm 4.5kg when he was born. If I still had it (sold it on due to lack of space) I would use it as all babies are different.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/05/2021 13:14

We do have a moses left over from last dc however also have big babies and saw a bargain on the next to me (half price) so thought will give it a go

I will try a normal cot sheet as we have plenty of those

My hospital bag so far contains
🍼 1 pack size 1 nappies
🍼 1 pack baby wipes
🍼 cotton wool pads
🍼 deodrant
🍼 facewipes

🍼 maternity pads (pack of each type)
🍼 vasaline
🍼 mini shampoo, conditioner and shower gel

Its all things i have chucked in as i have bought them so far
