How much weight have you gained so far?

21 weeks pregnant with 3rd baby and I'm really trying my best to eat healthy and drink plenty of water.

I know gaining weight is perfectly normal but I don't want to gain too much unnecessary weight, as if I just ate every time I had a craving I'd be huge already! I'm in no way limiting myself, I'm just being sensible.

So far I've gained 7lbs, which might not seem much but with my previous 2 I only started to gain from 20 weeks.

Has anyone been weighing themself?

I'm much earlier than you at 7 weeks but have already gained 4 kilos 😳 I'm also not wanting to gain unnecessary weight but I'm so hungry ALL OF THE TIME

nellly · 12/02/2021 10:49

I think a lot of it was because I was dieting and exercising hard before and now I'm struggling to exercise and plain carbs settle my stomach

savanahnana · 12/02/2021 10:55

@nellly I think at that many weeks if you're hungry or fancy something then you've just got to eat or it's just a vicious circle of then feeling sick/tired due to hunger! I think my weight gain was probably quite early due to that very reason, but as I've felt more 'normal' now I'm back to eating sensibly and gaining more steadily.

That isn't much at all!! I had gained more by that time in all pregnancies and was never too big in any. Always put about 26lb and lost more Grin let's see about the 3rd.

You need to be careful with your diet but undereating is dangerous for your baby. They may be born healthy and have more propensity for problems later on in life, like osteoporosis and stuff

savanahnana · 12/02/2021 11:03

I'm definitely not undereating or trying too. Just being sensible and not getting carried away with thinking I'm eating for two. So far with each pregnancy I've gained probably around 20lbs overall, but I usually gain that more closer to the 3rd trimester.

I’m a similar gestation and have put on 10lb so far. Really been trying since Christmas to limit the gain. I was still a stone overweight from my first pregnancy so would be loathe to end up 2stone overweight after this one.

SunnySideUp2020 · 12/02/2021 11:18

33 weeks and gained 14kg so far.
My midwife did tell me at 26w to watch what i eat as she doesn't me to get too heavy towards the end when naturally i will be gaining more with baby weight etc.

TheGardenOf · 12/02/2021 11:20

35 weeks & 1st 4lb. Gutted as I’m obese as it is! Hoping I will lose it quick bf

MrsKT123 · 12/02/2021 12:03

Thanks for starting this interesting thread savanahnana!

I'm just over 14 weeks and I've actually lost 11.5lbs so far :/ My bra size has also gone up two cup sizes already - normally I'd be delighted but I'm going to speak to my midwife about it at my next appointment just to check it's nothing to worry about.

For context, I was showing as overweight per my BMI to begin with (a size 12/14) but I've not made a conscious effort to lose weight at all, I've just had less of an appetite and have been trying to eat more fruit and dairy than I normally would. However, I've also had [more than] my fair share of cake, chocolate, sweets and crisps and I haven't been exercising as much as I normally would as WFH and haven't been out much.

Did anyone else lose weight in their pregnancy to start with? Was this a problem?

As my diet hasn't changed too much I think it could be that normally I would tend to have had alcohol on Friday and Saturdays, mainly prosecco and the odd cocktail which are very sugary and high in calories, which I've obviously not been having.

Superscientist · 12/02/2021 12:25

I lost about 7lb in the first trimester due to pregnancy sickness. I regained it in the second trimester and by the third trimester I had put on a further 7lbs. My pregnancy sickness return and I lost a couple of lbs so had to make a conscious effort to eat more when my sickness permitted. I finished pregnancy about a stone heavier than prepregnancy. I was back at my prepregnancy weight within 1-2 weeks and have since lost further weight which was probably actually lost in pregnancy.

I asked my midwife to keep an eye on my weight and she was happy with my weight gain going from my lowest to highest pregnancy weights.

swiftt · 12/02/2021 13:16

Scared to weigh myself at the moment but last time I did I’d gained around a stone, I must have been about 18 weeks then? 23 weeks now. My BMI was 32 pre-pregnancy and my midwife advised me not to gain any weight... Blush

3rdtimemomma · 12/02/2021 22:16

I'm 28 weeks and Iv gained I think around 1stone 5ish. But seems to be all bump
Haven't gained anywhere on my body. I don't think anyway!
I think counter in the baby, water, additional blood, placenta, all of that will add up 😊

Willowfalls · 13/02/2021 00:20

I was 7 stone 12 before pregnancy (I’m 5ft4 and always been small) and now 8 stone 12 at 25 weeks. I dont feel as if I’ve put on any weight except for bump (which isn’t particularly massive), boob and possibly tops of my legs! Also wondering if some weight is due to constipation - sorry tmi - but nothing seems to be fixing it at the moment Angry. Xx

AR52 · 13/02/2021 00:36

I'm 24 weeks and gained around 12lb 😳 i have definitely been eating much snacks than I usually would!

Grognonne · 13/02/2021 03:38

I’m 26wks and have put on 2.5kg so far. I seem to have chocolate every day now, before it was an occasional treat!

Your midwife sounds very unprofessional.

My BMI was 33 at booking in and she told me nothing of the sort. Your midwife is basically expecting you to lose weight whilst pregnant Shock

ivfbeenbusy · 13/02/2021 06:05

I gained a stone a half with my twins. I definitely ate for 3! Two weeks after c section I was back to pre pregnancy weight - but I credit that to breastfeeding 2 babies

swiftt · 13/02/2021 08:43

@Twobecomingthreeplusthedog yep, she did say that essentially I’d be losing weight but they can’t recommend that so she said she expects me to be the same weight at the end as I was at the start. I was a bit stressed out about it to begin with, but it’s clearly not going to happen so it is what is.

savanahnana · 13/02/2021 09:08

@swiftt - Thats really bad and quite shocking! Even if you were to strictly eat healthy and limited you'd still expect to gain! I only read the other day how much water retention, blood, baby and placenta contribute on its own, but then to expect you not to gain a single pound is ridiculous!

OP posts:
savanahnana · 13/02/2021 09:09

I think water retention is making my weight gain fluctuate so much!

georgarina · 13/02/2021 09:20

I'm 14 weeks...at my booking appointment at 12 ish weeks I hadn't gained anything. Which was a shock due to all the crap I had been eating with MS (anything that could be buttered and toasted basically). At least I'm back to being able to eat semi-healthily.

happymummy12345 · 13/02/2021 09:20

I put on 10kg throughout my pregnancy.

Queenbee95 · 13/02/2021 09:24

I’m now 30 weeks and I think I’ve put on at least 3st. Bmi was 21 before I got pregnant and I’m only 5ft 2, but I seem HUGE now. Mostly all bump tho so I’m hoping I lose it quick (I did with my other 2 pregnancies)
