Hi Guys

I have my first consultant appt tomorrow so this is a question to all my plus size mums because that's the only reason I was referred to the consultant.... what should I expect?

😊

How many weeks are you?

Hiya, I had mine recently at about 22 weeks. Basically they say try not to gain too much weight in pregnancy. You say ok I won’t. They say do you know the risks of being overweight. You say yes. They talk about the gestational diabetes test you’ll have at 28 weeks. You say ok. They tick their boxes and your day carries on as normal. My BMI was .2 over the acceptable weight threshold at my booking in appointment, so I don’t feel particularly worried about my weight, but they have to do what they have to do and as long as you go along with it you’ll be fine.

Thanks! I'm only 16 weeks on Saturday but it just seemed bizarre that I had to see a consultant because of my BMI ... I've had a Diabetic check already and I'm no where near the diabetic range I've lost 10lb since becoming pregnant lol

Not a big deal. They asses you, if all's looking good they put you back under midwife led care and you'll only see them again if there are problems.

Mine has never mentioned my BMI or weight, booking in apt I was told I would have to be seen by a consultant because of my BMI, so far they just wanted to do extra checks on blood pressure and get me on aspirin and extra folic acid, and got a nice extra cheeky scan so it's all good, nothing to worry about and nobody has said anything about weight!
