Private gender scan

We went today for our first scan 12+6, it was so nice my OH could be there. But she said that it's unlikely still that come my 20 week scan (which I'll actually be 21) he will be allowed. We want to find out if it's boy or girl, as I just can't deal with not knowing!
So wondered if we went to a private one and found out together there? Anyone else done this recently? Or just decided on a private earlier one anyway??

I had my dating scan yesterday and dh couldn't come along as he had too look after kids as we'd not told anyone (mc the last 2). So I have booked a private scan to find out gender (on dh's birthday), we can get a sitter now family know. Ours is essentially a well-being scan as that's all they're allowed to do in lockdown but gender reveal is an "extra". Just a few weeks wait rather than the 7 to my anomaly scan.
We had a private gender scan with our son and it was great, funnily enough I never felt the need for private ones with the girls.

ShabbyNat · 10/02/2021 18:13

We went for a private scan to find out whether we were having a boy or girl, that was a long time ago now, she turned 22 at the beginning of the month!!
They wouldnt do the scan until I was 24 weeks pregnant though, due to the termination/abortion cut-off time/law, making sure we wouldnt get rid if baby was "wrong" sexShockShock
Not sure if they still follow the same rules.
Plus, this was after we had the 20 week scan as normal & the lady doing the scan said she couldn`t "see" if it was a boy or girl, we both thought she was fibbingGrinGrin

Chelyanne · 10/02/2021 18:13

Oh and the private clinic site says come alone where possible but 1 companion is welcome to join you too.

Lottie917 · 10/02/2021 18:14

I had my 20 week scan in summer last year and DH couldn't come in. We went for a private one together at 18 weeks so found out the gender then. The 20 week scan confirmed the gender we'd already been told Smile

pinkgin8 · 10/02/2021 18:19

My partner is allowed to my 20 week scan in 2 weeks, he also came to the dating scan, didn't realise they were stopping that, they haven't here?

doritodiva · 10/02/2021 18:36

I am 31 weeks pregnant. Husband wasn't allowed to any of the scans. So we went private for a 12 week and 20 week scan. They told us the gender at the 20 week scan. Could only take one person.

Lollypop701 · 10/02/2021 18:40

I had one at 14 weeks and they were right my daughter is 15. But it depends on how experienced sonogrpher is and way baby is positioned

DreamingInColours · 10/02/2021 18:41

Not sure about how this works with restrictions but can you do the Harmony test and open letter together?

Analysethat · 10/02/2021 18:59

How can she possibly know what will be the case in 8 weeks time. Trusts are changing day to day. It may be that you can take your partner.

Thefaceofboe · 10/02/2021 19:20

Ours isn’t doing gender scans during lockdown, only ones health related.

This what OH said, he reckons it'll be different in 2 months time but I don't know 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it varies whereabouts you are in the country!

@horsey92 You can have a private scan from 16 weeks for gender. We had a harmony test & found the sex out at 11 weeks but then a private scan at 16 weeks which confirmed it. I’d be surprised if he’s not allowed to your 20 week scan but I know different areas of the country are different! Good luck 😊

SunnySideUp2020 · 11/02/2021 08:15

I would wait and see how the restrictions are in 1 month or 2.
No point in booking anything now if you end up being allowed someone at 20w.

boymum88 · 11/02/2021 08:30

We had private gender scan at 16 weeks. dh was allowed to come to both nhs 12 and 20 week scans but just so happen ds was ill at 20 week scan so Dh couldn't come. This has now changed in my trust and they can only come to 12 week scans at the min.
If you can afford it and research where you want to have it done, I feel it's well worth it

Newmumtobeee · 11/02/2021 13:11

I’m from Wales and my partner was allowed to my 12 week and 20 week scan. However, I still wanted a private scan to find out the gender as there was uncertainty whether he would still be allowed to the 20 week. I had it at 18 weeks and found out I was having a boy! They were great & my partner was allowed to come. I’d say it’s worth it 100%. I went to window to the womb

covidarguments · 11/02/2021 13:14

I had to go alone to my 12 week & 20 week scan at the hospital last week

I went for a private scan when I was 17 weeks and found out I'm having a girl - I could take 1 person with me.

Blah90 · 11/08/2021 08:55

Hi all :) hope you and your little ones are keeping well!
I also have a question re the gender scan and hoping someone can shed some light, as this is my first pregnancy so I’m so unsure of everything lol
Baby is growing as they should be and we were told ‘probably female’ re gender and then she said ‘we cannot be 100% accurate, keep your receipts if you buy anything’
Is this how people are told? With a probably? Baby had legs right up and looked so chilled!
Any advice or help would be so appreciated! X

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 11/08/2021 10:33

I was told girl with my DD. They did say it was never 100% "guaranteed" but the lady saying it was basically certain. I guess it depends a bit on the positioning. You know when you're baby moves most - you can get basic scan privately for around £50-70, and you'll get more photos, so maybe book an appt for when baby's likely to be moving? Also, drink a can of coke half an hour before so they are full of energy!

I'm now 13 +5 with DC2, and will be getting a private scan at 16-17 weeks to find out sex, because I'm just so impatient.

Blah90 · 11/08/2021 10:50

@IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar thank you! Oh I don’t blame you! It felt like a long time between 12 and 20 week scans!
Think I will opt for a private scan, if anything, it’s always good to see baby again

Tina8800 · 11/08/2021 10:53

@Blah90 I am 18+4 and I had a gender scan at week 16 (not only to find out the sex, but I had a mc last year so I could not wait till the NHS scan). My baby was in the very good position, so they told me its definitely a girl. I have a photo of it, it is very clear and compering with my sisters boys, I am sure I having a little girl.
Sometimes they can not tell you for a 100% due to the baby`s position. Did you go privet or they told you at the 20 weeks scan?

Blah90 · 11/08/2021 10:59

@Tina8800
It was our nhs scan. Yes I think a lot of it was the baby’s position.I would just like to know for sure, but I’m probably just being fussy! Hope you’re doing okay :)

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 11/08/2021 11:30

And for anyone booking a private scan, take a look at groupon. Near me, you can get some pretty good deals.

Parentingdilemmas · 11/08/2021 11:56

@horsey92 where I’m from partners are allowed in 12 and 20 week scans but no other scans. For example if extra scans are needed such as growth scans then OH cannot come.

We had a private gender scan and OH was allowed.
