Small Subchorionic Haematoma

Just want a bit of hand holding/reassurance please from someone that has experienced having a small Subchorionic Haematoma during early pregnancy. I’ve just had my 6 week scan and was measuring a few days behind but that was to be expected really as I ovulate late in my cycle and the sonographer wasn’t worried. The baby has a heartbeat. I told her I had one bit of light pink spotting last night when I wiped but nothing since. I’ve had 2 miscarriages and one ectopic so I was expecting the worst at my scan but was also wondering if the spotting was down to the fact that I have a UTI (just finished my antibiotic course today) but she did say I have a Subchorionic Haematoma next to the sac measuring 14x5mm and that it can either be absorbed and it should be gone by my next scan or expect a bleed but if it’s heavy go to the hospital! So now I’m obviously in absolute bits and not sure if today has gone well or not. I never had anything like this with my only successful pregnancy 6 years ago. Can anyone reassure me please? Thank you Sad

Hi AnxiousMoma

Try not to worry, I think they are more common than you'd think. I had a bleed at 6 weeks, scan showed no reason, a gush of blood, like bright red filling the toilet and then onto a pad at 10 weeks and again the scan showed no reason then I had another a week later but had to wait till the 12 week scan, baby was totally fine and they pointed out I had a haematoma too. I had another gush of blood bleed at 16 weeks and at my scan the baby was fine again and the haematoma was still there. Im 19weeks now and haven't had anything since so hoping to see that at my 20week scan that the haematoma is gone 🤞.

I know it's hard not to worry, and I have panicked with all my bleeds as I had 2 miscarriages in lockdown last year but it really always doesn't mean the worst. Lots of love to you x

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're going through this stress. As the PP said, I think these are actually quite common. I bled on and off from 3 to 6 weeks in this pregnancy, never heavy, but often red, and much more than spotting. A scan at 6+2 showed a HB and a small haematoma, and like you I was told it might keep bleeding or might just reabsorb. I never had any more bleeding after that day, and a scan at 10 weeks showed the haematoma was gone. It's incredibly stressful while it's going on though. Good luck! Xxx

Hi @AnxiousMoma, I completely understand your anxiety, please try not to panic. I’m sorry for your previous losses Flowers

I had the same, at around 6 weeks I had some pink spotting and, like you I panicked due to previous miscarriage. 6+4 had a scan, which showed baby and heartbeat, with subchronic haematoma. That likely caused the spotting.

I’m now 13+4 and had my 12 week scan last week and haematoma had gone.

It’s hard not to worry, especially with your prior experience. Best of luck 💗

Hi, I am currently 10 weeks pregnant but had a bleed at 6/7 weeks. I had a scan and they could see a hematoma was causing it. I had brown spotting for about another 10 days and then nothing since. My midwife things it has now healed, I'm hoping on my 12 week scan that it will be gone. It really is common and yours is a similar size to mine which apparently in hematoma terms is small so that's good.

@crazylemon86 thank you for sharing, that’s reassured me a ton. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy xx

I had one at my 12w scan but had no symptoms so blissfully unaware. They weren't concerned about it in the slightest and it was nowhere to be seen at the 20w scan so was nothing to worry about

@LemonRizzle brilliant, thank you for sharing🙏🏼

In this pregnancy I had a big bleed from a SH and I'm now 33 weeks and all is well.

I won't lie I have had a pregnancy which ended in mc where there was a much larger SH - however they don't believe I mc'd because of the bleed.

They are very common and often disappear on their own. Good luck and sending you positive vibes!

I had one with my second pregnancy. It was a horribly worrying and stressful time. It was quite big at 12 week scan but had completely disappeared by 20 weeks. I had quite a bit of early spotting. DD is now almost 18 and it was an easy and uneventfully pregnancy after a shaky beginning. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy x
