How important is an expensive cot mattress?

Im looking for a new mattress and have come across this on kiddicare website.

Seems swanky enough and only £40!

However, I have a small voice saying if I REALLY cared about the baby I would be buying one of the £100+ ones - can anyone tell me what is important in mattress purchase?

I like the fact the one Ive seen has a zip of cover to stick in washing machine.

Thanks!

I don't know the absolute answer, but I'd be interested to know what a "foam spring" is.

How long do you expect to use the mattress for? We bought online, but after seeing the mattresses in store and being able to prod and poke them. Unfortunately the expensive ones did look like they'd be a lot more supportive for a lot longer, so we forked out - DD should be in the cot for a couple of years and hopefully we won't have to replace the mattress. Plus as the cover is removable and washable, we might just have an option to get a replacement cover for any DC2 rather than a whole new mattress.

Have you seen this site? Nearly all their mattresses have removable covers, so you can choose the mattress/cover combination that suits you best. We bought a crib mattress from them, and it turned up the next day and fitted just fine.

Good luck deciding

(meant to say existing cover is removable, washable, and waterproof - should catch any bugs that might increase risk of SIDS)

Thanks for that Tangle.

Im not expecting too much use from this mattress, this is baby numbr 3 and I have also purchased an Amby nature nest so baby shouldnt even be using the cot properly until about 9 months.

Ill check out that site.

Thanks!
