Pre eclampsia experiences

Hiii

I’m hoping to hear people’s experiences from pre eclampsia, I had suspected pre eclampsia with my son 2 years ago, it came to light later on in my pregnancy were my feet and hands got really swollen and I mentioned to my midwife about lights in my eyes (like sperm dancing about, rather pretty actually lol) So I got induced later that night as I was near my due date, baby was perfect, I was fine and we never really heard anything about the pre clampsia after he was born.

Now I’m 26 weeks pregnant, and since 20 weeks they have noticed in my scans that there is possible signs off pre eclampsia as there was dips when reading the plancenta? My baby is measuring small aswell so I am getting more hospital appointments than normal just to check on her, although she doesn’t seem to be too small.

I got the sperm like lights in my eyes on Saturday and I called the hospital who told me to come in and get checked over, I did and everything seemed to be fine, blood pressure and bloods fine.
I know they still don’t know a lot about pre eclampsia so am interested to hear about people’s experiences so I know what I can expect.

Thanks x

I had it quite severe. My blood pressure was up really high so I was on a lot of medication then they had to induce me as I was on a high dose and it no longer controlled it. I also have a heart issue though so that complicated things a bit and made it safer to get baby out. 2 days in the nicu then all was well with baby, I had to stay on medication a bit longer as I had to be weaned off due to the blood pressure staying elevated. Second pregnancy now and so far so good! Blood pressure a bit high on occasion but nothing like before and no protein in my urine like before! I got the lights thing in my eyes a few times also when my blood pressure was very high and very severe headaches! I also swelled up like crazy!

I had it too. My BP was permanently staggeringly high. I was on shitloads of medication, in & out of hospital for weeks before my placenta started failing and my dd was born via EMC general anaesthetic at 31 weeks.

I had it with both successful pregnancies.
Teeny tiny baby due to IUGR.
Very high blood pressure, swelling and all that jazz, flashing lights etc.
Given tablets, brought in for monitoring, induced early.
5lb baby, no special care, home within 24 hours,.
Absolutely fine.

I had it, it’s shit isn’t it. Are you taking aspirin? I had it during my second pregnancy after having PE in my first. It was a really stressful time as my BP took ages to come down and I was on medication for a while after the birth.

I had severe swelling from about 25 weeks but no other symptoms so it didn’t concern anyone. Then when I was 2 days overdue my BP was high and there was protein in my urine sample....admitted, induced, baby (all 9lb 2oz of him!) eventually brought out with forceps after the doctors struggled to lower my BP. I had magnesium sulphate and was in hospital for 4 days after the birth (also had a massive haemorrhage).

I didn’t get it with my 2nd - I did go to the MAU a couple of times as my BP on my home machine seemed high and I had the sparkly lights in my eyes but it didn’t come to anything and DD was born healthy at 8lb with thankfully no sign of the PE.

I had pre-eclampsia as well. I was very lucky in that I felt absolutely fine. BP had been gradually increasing throughout the pregnancy, but only became "high" and had protein in my urine at 36 weeks.

Other than that, I was pretty much symptomless. I was swollen, but there was an ongoing heatwave at the same time. I would have been massively swollen anyway. I had also had two episodes of flashing lights, but then I had just stood up quickly both times.

Once bloods came back and showed I had pre-eclampsia, I was admitted (the day before I was to go on maternity leave - booooo!), and put on labetalol. Since baby and I were both fine, it was agreed we would get to 37 weeks before inducing. It was very weird being in hospital when I didn't even feel ill.

Baby was born 37+1 weighing a very respectable 7lb 5oz.
