Posterior low lying placenta at 20 weeks, advice please.

Hi, I had my 20 week scan on Saturday. The sonographer said that I have a posterior low placenta. She did mention it should move up and said no more. Since then I have obviously gone onto Google and read the worst case scenario.

Has anyone had a posterior low placenta and have it move before the 32 and 36 week scan?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! X

@Sarahneedscoffee hi I was the same except mine is anterior, it had moved a couple of weeks later (had a private scan). At my 32 week scan today I was told its now 5 cm away.

Hi, I've just had my 32 week internal scan and it has moved out the way.
The lady said 90% of low lying will move out the way by 32 weeks

Mine was anterior and partially covering. Mine moved in time but due to other complications I had an EMCS.

Most placentas move, it's just a waiting game unfortunately. In most cases if they don't move it will mean you will require a planned C-section. The vast majority of cases don't have additional complications.

Is your placenta just low or covering? If it's just low I wouldn't worry at all if it were me. If it's covering then I'd try not to worry but probably would ask for TV scans at follow up ultrasound appointments if they're at all unsure on whether it's cleared or not. I think you only need a 2cm clearance to request/push for a natural birth.

Mine was completely covering at my 20 week scan, was told that i had a 50/50 chance of it moving and to possibly prepare for a c section. I had a scan at 29 weeks due to bleeding and it was completely clear, now 34 weeks Smile

Thank you everyone! This has reassured me. After my son I had a massive bleed and they were on the verge of transfusing me however we managed to avoid it. So I obviously didn't want placenta preevia. X

I fully get your worry! I had exactly the same with my last birth! You have a very good chance of it moving!
