6 weeks and paranoid

Im about 6 weeks pregnant. I miscarried very early on the last time so now every time I feel slight cramping I get paranoid. When I go to the toilet I cant help but check that my urine is clear about 4 times! Can anyone tell me if this slight cramping is normal ? It seems to happen more so at night.

Hey Lottyq

Certainly your paranoia is normal. I had it and I never miscarried, still checked on the loo like you do for months . Cramping is normal and I certainly had it in the early weeks (I am now 27+2). I can imagine that the stress if anything will make the cramping worse. Use a hot water bottle, like you would for a period to help you relax.

But don't spend all your time fretting. Does your GP know you have miscarried before? You can be referred to the early pregnancy clinic in your local hospital for an early scan to put your mind at rest.

Hang on in there!

I think that slight cramps and weird twinges are normal - it's because of your womb and other organs moving around slightly, as the pg progresses.

thanks to you both for your replies - they have certainly helped to put my mind at ease!!
My doc did know of my miscarriage and I did mention about possibly getting a 6 week scan but she didnt really seem that keen so I just said not to bother.

thanks again !! :O

6 week scan would be too early to reassure you - particularly if you were at all out on your dates, it could cause more stress than it wsa worth. I would have thought a scan at 8/9 weeks would be better.

Hi, I have had 3 miscarriages so I know exactly what you mean about having to check for bleeding every time you go to the toilet.

I now have a gorgeous dd and am 19 weeks with our second. With this pregnancy I seemed to have more cramping than all the others at the beginning which was really stressful but all seems to be going fine now. I know its hard not to worry but be reassured its not always the sign of a problem.

At our local early pregnancy unit they will give you a reassurance scan at 8 weeks if you have had a miscarriage in the past. It may be worth giving your unit a call to see if this is possible in your area so you dont have to wait the full 12 weeks to know everything is ok.

i have to admit that the paranoia didnt leave me until i gave birth to both DC.i had 3 niscarriages which were all in the 1st trimester but i just couldnt relax through my pregnanies, i had 2 sets of ante natal notes because i was there that often

HI and thanks again for your messages. Its such a worrying time isnt it - i thought trying for a baby and conceiving and then carry it through to the 9 months was a done deal - but I realise now that it sure isnt! But what you have all said has reassured me.
Im not sure if we have this early scan available - when i mentioned this 6 week scan to my doctor she sort of looked bemused and said that she doesnt know if that would help as I could miscarry after having this scan! As long as I dont start getting spotting and then bleeding, I think I will feel that things are going normally!
Good Luck Kes3 with your pregnancy!!

Cramps and twinges are absolutely normal. This is my second pregnancy (6 wks at mo) and experiencing exactly the same twinges in my lower abdomen and pelvis region.

I remember on my first pregnancy I went to see the doctor as I didn't know what the pain was and he reassured me that it was just my ligaments relaxing, to make room for the growing uterus.

If you have any concerns go and see your doctor, their really understanding and having had a miscarriage previously at least go and put your mind to rest.
