I wanted to see if anyone else out there has experienced something similar... just under 1 month ago I had what I assumed was my period (although light) but then I started bleeding again only 18 days into my cycle but this time stronger. After 6 days of bleeding it had tapered off and I was sitting in the bath with my son when I saw what seemed like a clot ( obviously it had come from me and it was brownish in colour so not fresh blood) in the water. We got out and I got him down to sleep. The bathroom is next to his room so rather than just pulling out the plug and possibly waking him I scooped it out of the water. That’s when I realised it had two hard small lumps inside. Both lumps were the size of a grain of rice and bulbous on the top and pointy on the bottom in a curved shape and honestly resembled what a 5 or so week old embryo looks like from all of the images I’ve seen on embryo development..Until that moment I hadn’t really considered that I could be pregnant as we had been using protection BUT at that moment the penny dropped that I had been feeling quite nauseous/ extra hungry/ smell sensitive/ had been tucking into my old pregnancy craving of flavoured milk of late- I’m not usually a milk drinker and have been having migraines frequently the last 2 weeks or so just like I did in early pregnancy with my son. I bought home pregnancy tests which were negative and went to my dr the afternoon after I passed it. They ordered me some bloods and today I received a negative hcg/ pregnancy result. I have had clots before with period but this was definitely different. Looking at what I held in my hand I literally couldn’t imagine it to be anything other than two embryos... but my test result say otherwise...so my question is has anyone else had something similar or even a proven/ acknowledged miscarriage but no positive hcg in urine or blood test?! The passing of this clot was now 4 days ago as it was just before the weekend and I’ve been feeling really nauseous and with frequent migraines...Feeling super confused.

Hi. I can't help much with anything similar.
There's obviously a possibility that it could be, however you should still have some HCG left in your system especially picked up on a blood test.
Sorry can't be much help ❤️

Hello thanks for your reply. Yes, that’s what I thought too about there at least being some Hcg. I guess that’s why I thought I would ask as what I read about hcg and pregnancy conflict with the symptoms I’ve had/ what I saw/ the odd bleeding which made me wondering if there are any other odd cases of no hcg but a miscarriage. I did bleed for 6 days before I shed the suspect tissue/ clot and got tested ... I don’t know if 6 days is enough time for hcg to disappear. Thanks again for your reply

I'm sure you would still have some hcg detectable in a blood test if you were around 5 weeks. Apparently, it takes longer to go the further along you are. I still have positive hcg 2.5 weeks after mmc @ just over 10 weeks

As previous poster has said, it takes a lot longer, especially at around 5 weeks.
I've had a miscarriage at 5 and a half weeks which took almost 3 weeks to go negative on a test and then also a miscarriage at around 10 weeks that took just over 4 weeks to go negative.
So there definitely would be something

It is possible it was a miscarriage that died some time ago and hasn't been producing hcg so none was detected? Idk. This may just have been a weird blood clot from your period. Whatever it was is impossible to find out now and I would recommend focusing on the present and future. Make sure you go through all the checks with you doctor to see you have no retained tissue and can ttc again if this is your plan.

Thanks for your reply. I did wonder if that could be a possibility about potentially having lost it a while ago maybe even prior to my bleed. I think I will just accept I will probably never know for sure, thankfully the terrible nausea and migraines have started to ease at least
