So my periods are usually irregular ,I haven’t had a period since 15th December on the 12th January I had unprotected sex and it’s now been just over 3 week I’ve taken a test and negative but I’m wondering could I still be pregnant as I can’t go off a missed period with them been irregular and it’s only been just over 3 week since we had unprotected sex? , I’m really bloated and my family have asked if I’m pregnant as I’m a really slim build and it looks the same as I looked when I was 3 month with my youngest , I just feel different in myself I’m eating loads and constantly needing to pee I’m not sure if I tested too early , with my daughter my periods was regular so when I missed I took a test and it was positive but this time round the whole situation is different

If you conceived 3w ago a test should show positive by now, however you may not have ovulated yet and the sperm may have stuck around for a few days (think max is 5) so you might just be on the cusp for testing. I would say test Monday morning with FMU using a FRER and if it’s still negative I would say trust the result.

If you’re still having the same symptoms and not pregnant I would suggest a call to your GP as could be something else.

Agree with PP. Take another test in a few days. What sort of test did you take before?

If you tested negative and it's been more than three weeks since last intercourse you are not pregnant.
The math is as follows: conception takes place 7 days after sex at the latest (1 week). Most viable embryos produce enough hcg for a positive test 8-11 days after conception or earlier. Those embryos who don't lead to a positive on day 14 after conception (day 21 since last sex max) have virtually no chance. For you to be pregnant if your dates are correct would be very rare - you would have to have a combination of super sperm that lives beyond 7 days and an embryo that is very slow to develop and fails to produce enough hcg even on day 18 after conception yet survives.

My post above is true if you tested with a sensitive test, like 20 miu/ml. There is more of a chance if you used a low sensitivity test.

I just used a regular test , I didn’t find out till 5 week with my daughter so was wondering if it was the same case this time but maybe I’m just thinking too much into it

The standard tests are for the first day of a missed period (I know you have irregular periods) as they only register a much higher amount of HCG. That’s around 15-16dpo for an average cycle. The sensitive tests are for 9dpo so you should have seen something by three weeks for definite on one of them.

There is a chance, if you weren’t monitoring for it, that you didn’t even ovulate then if your periods are irregular. I would say it is unlikely you are pregnant if you took a test 3 weeks after having sex but not out of the realms of possibility.
