Does bleeding mean miscarriage?

I'm 5 weeks pregnant. Yesterday I had a small bleed, I noticed it in my underwear when I went to the loo. It was bright red and nothing when I wiped. I had some cramping. I went to work this morning and went to the toilet and noticed I had been bleeding again, this time 3-4 drops in my underwear of brown watery blood. A bit on wiping and ive had cramps.
EPU won't scan as I'm not 6 weeks yet.
Anyone had anything similar? Thank you.

It doesn’t always mean miscarriage no, I’m sorry EPU won’t see you yet. They’ll give you the answers you need.

No it defo doesnt always mean miscarriage. I had 3 or 4 bleeds with this pregnancy 2 around thr 7 to 9 week mark.
2 where very heavy with clots and tissue like bits and other times was like the end of a period with a bit of dark blood on underwear and when I wiped. Was sure something was wrong and called EPU twice and they wouldnt see me. Booked a private scan as I couldnt sit and just wait and everything was fine. Now 26 weeks and everything is good and havnt bled since. No ones ever been able to tell me why I bled. Bleedimg should always be checked out as its not considered normal but if defo happens and doesnt always mean bad news. Good Luck.

Not necessarily - I had a relatively big bleed at 8weeks, and then spotted again for a couple of weeks after that. Am now 26 weeks with (as far as I know) a healthy growing baby. They never found out the reason for bleeding or spotting, just put it down as an undetermined cause.

Thank you. I'm sorry to hear what you went through. It's the not knowing that makes it so much worse isn't it. Did you have cramping too? x

Have you taken another test since the bleeding started?
When I had early miscarriages the tests went from positive to negative once the bleeding started.

Oh really? No I haven't as I thought it would take a while for the hormones to drop. I'll send DP out for some Sad

I think sometimes it can take a while for hormones to drop but for me they were negative after the bleeding. Possibly because it's still early days hormone levels weren't very high to begin with 🤔

Aww good luck Thanks

PFin · 05/02/2021 17:02

@grandyorkshirelass yes OP had cramps on and off also but if i hadnt of been bleeding it just felt like day to day cramps and pains of pregnancy. There are ao many explanations other than miscarriage i know its hard but try not to think the worst. Sending love your way! Flowers

It can take up to two weeks for the hormones to drop, so I wouldn’t recommend taking home tests in the meantime. It will drive you mad.

I'm just really hoping I'm still in with a chance. It's an awful feeling the not knowing and the wondering. Thank you Daffodil

@grandyorkshirelass hi, I had a bleed at 7 weeks and it turned out I had a small hematoma. This wasn't effecting the baby at all but was causing the bleeding. It stopped over the next couple of weeks and has now disappeared. Your bleed could be something like that

Iggi999 · 05/02/2021 17:41

OP this might not be helpful but I've had successful pregnancies and I've had miscarriages, and I had a small amount of bleeding in the early weeks in every single one.
When I was too early for a scan the GP would do blood tests on separate days to see if my levels were increasing, is that an option? But sadly there's really no substitute for waiting. I really hope it all works out for you.

Amichelle84 · 05/02/2021 17:42

It doesn't always mean miscarriage and is very common. I bled a lot until about 9 weeks. Hope all works out for you.

They didn't mention doing blood tests? I think if it continues over the weekend I'll ring them again as I'm 6 weeks on Tuesday so I'm hoping EPU would see me by then xx
