Swollen feet

Can anyone shed any light- I'm 38+4 and my feet and legs(up to my knees have swollen up. It's happened over a few weeks so not hugely sudden and I've been tested for pre eclampsia and all is normal. I know this can be just a pregnancy symptom but generally how long after birth does it take to go down. Feeling a bit like the elephant woman what with the weight gain too. Also how long did it take people to shed the baby weight. I'm generally pretty active what with 2 dogs and daily walks and I get it's different for everyone but I guess I'm just after some hope it won't be too long before I feel a bit more like myself

It goes down pretty quickly after birth.

I had bad swelling with my twins for most of the last trimester but it settled down completely within a couple of weeks of birth.

My sympathies, I had hugely swollen ankles & legs the last few weeks of pregnancy, couldn’t even bend my ankles! thankfully It all went down around a week after the birth. I also had a dog so, thanks to daily walks & breastfeeding, despite putting on 3 stone in pregnancy I lost it over about 5/6 weeks. However, my baby only slept around 3 hours a night and was a difficult baby so I was hardly ever sat still!
Wishing you a safe and speedy delivery Flowers

Mine took longer and I have had it in my last two pregnancies. Your body will be different to anyone else's, you might get lucky or it might be that bit longer. Re weight mine took longer but you sound very active anyway so hopefully won't take you as long.

Weight wise. 1st 2 took me years to drop the gain but I did gain 4st with each of them. 3rd I gained 2.5st, only 7lb heavier after birth and that came off in a matter of weeks. 4&5 stopped weighing myself at 2st gain but like 3 was only 7lb heavier after birth than pre-pregnancy. Was off within 3 months, 1st 6 weeks I couldn't do as much exercise wise because of exhaustion and having a healing cesarean wound.

Thank you for replying. I’ve been so settled and taken most things in my stride but now I’m so close the littlest things seem to upset me or make me worry or feel anxious. This pregnancy was a total surprise, although we are both very excited now and I think I’m just overthinking everything 😊

The only thing I found that helped was soaking my feet with epsom salts. It didn't take the swelling down completely but it made it more comfortable. I've tried out a few but I found one from WholyMe which has been my favourite. (wholyme.com/products/relief-salts/)
