Headaches at 16weeks

Hi All,

Pre getting pregnant i suffered quite badly with tension headaches and used to take Syndol to help ease them (absolute lifesavers). This past week I have had the most horrendous headache, that even when it seems to go, it comes back a few hours later and I just can't shift it.

I've been taking paracetamol (doesn't touch it), 4head (helps but only briefly) and i've spent a small fortune on the kool n sooth cooling gel pads but nothing really helps :(

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how i can help ease them without my usual medication? I've also had a really upset stomach the past few days, not sure what's triggered it so I'm wondering if it's all connected.

I could have written your post myself! I’m 18 weeks and have also been suffering from horrendous headaches. I also used to suffer badly from tension headaches prior to pregnancy and only nurofen would do the trick. I’ve massively increased my water intake and have had a couple of pregnancy massages which really seem to have done the trick. I’ve heard that the hormones are primarily to blame so sometimes just going to bed and trying to sleep is the only way to alleviate the pain. Good luck and I hope they start to ease off soon!

I had exactly the same as you aroun 16-17 weeks I actually posted the same thing! I found drinking lots of water, and a can of Pepsi Max (caffeine!) and a chocolate bar really helped! Not ideal but deffo worked x

Same here, mine were more from weeks 13-17. I would have a headache and sometimes puke with them either every day or every other day. I'm 18 weeks on monday and they seem to be on the way out hopefully. They were very migrainey. Upping water intake and having some coke zero helped, plus forcing myself to go for a walk in the fresh air.

It's definitely hormones but I also think being cooped up indoors with nothing else to think about makes things a lot worse!

Oh yes caffeine! I also found allowing myself a regular cup of tea or glass of coke when I felt a headache coming on seemed to help!

I had the same thing for a few weeks at around 16 weeks.
Drink loads of water (3liters a day) and I found that solpadeine headache was the only paracetamol that worked (it has caffeine in)

I had daily headaches at roughly 16 weeks too. I’d wake up and go to sleep with one it was awful! I used to just drink lots of water and use the kool n soothe gels but nothing helped if I’m honest . Best thing is to just wait it out . I had them for roughly two weeks and then they stopped x x
