I ate a prepackaged pastrami sandwich for lunch, and it’s just occurred to me that I shouldn’t of done. I was veggie prepregnancy, but have eaten a few bits of meat throughout. Now I’m panicked about toxoplasmosis and listeriosis. Someone please reassure me!

Is that not a cooked meat? Perfectly fine to eat

MyBabyBoyBlue · 03/02/2021 15:20

As PP said, cooked meats are fine to eat. Don't worry!

Deli meat should be cooked before consumption. As it's prepackaged, check if it says cooked prior to packaging, they often are.
If not cooked the risk of contamination is low, all you can do is watch for symptoms of illness and avoid eating uncooked in future.

It's cooked. It's also quite heavily salted during the initial curing process which makes it even safer from a bacterial/microbial p.o.v.

Yep totally fine as salted and cooked. Its things like pepperoni or salami you need to avoid, unless they have been cooked!
