Should I be worried?

Hi - hoping for a bit of reassurance! I’m a first time mum, 23 weeks pregnant and yesterday I received a large parcel which I took in and up a flight of stairs. It weighed just under 20kg and I did struggle. Since then I’ve been feeling very tender and sore in the pelvic/lower abdomen area.

Could I have hurt the baby? Hoping it’s pregnancy/first time mum anxiety! Have felt some movement since but I also have an anterior placenta, so movements are a bit up and down generally! Thank you

It's far more likely you've injured yourself than baby. That's the reason we're advised not to do heavy lifting: risk of muscles strain is increased during pregnancy because of the hormone relaxin.

Phone your GP for advice. I'm sure it's fine but any sort of pain should be checked out by a professional and it'll put your mind at ease far more than we can. Congratulations!

Baby will be fine. I lifted heavier older kids when full term with twins and was fine.

Thank you all - I’ve had a warm bath and rested this morning and that’s helped a lot. Think the anxiety is getting the better of me!
