Regular Braxton Hicks?

Since about 17 weeks I've had weird feelings like mini-tightenings in my bump which I thought were baby rolling. Not at all painful - just weird. It had occurred to me that they could be Braxton Hicks but thought it was too early to be feeling them. They've carried on and I didn't think too much of it. Now 31 weeks.

I went into the hospital last night for reduced movements - heartrate and everything was fine but I could see on the monitor that when I was getting the weird "rolling/tightening" feelings the TOCO measure was increasing. It was happening regularly - every 5 minutes and going up to about 80-90 each time. The midwife noticed it as well and asked if I'd been having tightenings and if she could feel my tummy but it was soft when she did (not during one of the "episodes"). When we left she said the usual stuff about coming back if movements change again or if have any pain but also said to call if the tightenings got stronger or painful. It carried on overnight and into this morning but now I'm up seems to have stopped.

Anyone else had this or know what it could mean (if anything)? I'll ask at my next MW appt anyway. I've been assuming this baby will be late - FTM with a family history of late babies - but now wondering if I need to get my head around going into labour early. Or are regular Braxton Hicks normal? I thought I read somewhere that they should be pretty irregular.

Hi I had this with my my second dd , they started at 23 weeks and was quite strong by 30 weeks and regular like every 5 mins. I went on the monitor and they thought she might be coming so they kept me in a few days and gave me steroid injections to prepare her lungs for coming early but it didn’t progress and she stayed out until 39 weeks. I did some Googling myself and decided it was an irritable uterus. I’m now pregnant with my 3rd and 23 weeks and It’s starting to happen again but I won’t go in this time as I’m aware of it and what triggers it. My labour ended up being only 2 hours cause my body was so prepared for it after all the contractions so hopefully that will be the case for you too x

Thanks, that's helpful. I had a look at irritable uterus and it does sound like that's what I have. It's weird when I'm cooking dinner and can feel my tummy tightening every 5 minutes - I just thought it was a normal part of pregnancy until last night! I saw that they can be caused by infections and I've had UTIs throughout this PG which just won't stay away so maybe that's why. Hopefully I have the same experience of labour as you!

I'm having this right now and have been for the last few weeks (19 weeks now!) I've noticed that it seems to happen when I'm dehydrated?! Could this be the case for you? X
