Constipation pain?

I'm 5wks pregnant. I am usually quite regular (go to the toilet most mornings) this past week I haven't been every morning and this weekend I've had the most uncomfortable stomach pain. It's only felt when I move around or change sitting/lying position I can feel it. Just an uncomfortable pulling feeling.

With this being my first pregnancy I am worrying and even thinking is something going wrong? I have had no discharge or bleeding.

5wks pregnant and hating this worry 😢

Ugh so painful! I had this earlier in the week, and it was horrendous. I increased my fluid intake and had a big cup of strong tea and a warm bath which seemed to get things moving eventually, but I was very sore! Hope you get better soon.

@mayihavesomecakeplease do you think it could be constipation then? Is this common so early on?

I'm trying to drink more, just went to go the loo and nothing happened! 😫

I really want to start to enjoy that I'm pregnant but ever since I got the BFP last week I'm just so nervous and anxious all of the time! Worrying what is normal or not? Got my first appointment date through 23rd Feb.

I suffered with constipation in my last pregnancy from pretty much week 4. Carried on throughout and I actually thought my early contractions were just my usual 'need to poo' cramps. Wasn't until my sister pointed out I'd been saying I needed the loo for about 12 hours, every 10 mins or so that I realised they were mild contractions. I am now 6 weeks with number 2 and already having the same issues. I find drinking a small glass of fresh orange juice each morning, making sure I get a walk in and eating a high fiber diet does help. If it gets bad I think your GP can advise on some pregnancy safe laxatives.

@Ummm21 can I ask did you have constipation stomach pain? What did it feel like?

Try a solvable high fibre drink, one like fybogel. It will just help get everything moving again and us perfectly safe.
I had this problem for weeks early on, diet and hormone changes seem to slow the digestive system down. It can easily go the other way too. Your body will adjust over time so hang in there.

Ummm21 · 31/01/2021 13:18

Sometimes it was my tummy, when I really needed to go. It felt like bad trapped wind which probably accounted for some of it. I also got it in my back. Fybogel is a good suggestion too.

I had this problem. Dietician recommended small glass of prune juice every night and that did the trick.

LittleTiger007 · 31/01/2021 13:20

I have suffered with this a lot throughout this pregnancy so far from as early as you are (currently 24 weeks). I have added a couple of dates and a small glass of prune juice a day to my diet as well as drinking lots and lots of water all day. It does help. Progesterone and relaxin in the body slow down the digestive tract so that every last bit of goodness is removed from your food for the baby. Then later on the intestines get squashed in little room... so it’s an ongoing problem. Other things you could do are taking fibogel or simply drinking a lot more fruit juice. Light exercise also helps get things moving.

I'm 8+4 and I've had constipation from day 1! Mine is an ivf pregnancy so I am on alot of progesterone. It's the progesterone that does it! At 5 weeks your levels will be rising so it's totally normal! I've been taking lactulose every few days and it seems to help!

Thank you all for your replies! So glad I posted on here I feel slightly relieved now. I will note down your suggestions to have a try at, see if they help.

I struggled with this in the first trimester. Sorry to say that it can get worse and last your entire pregnancy. The worst for me is trapped wind... do you eat enough fruit and fibre? And drink enough water? I tried all of those things but didn't help. The only thing that made me regular was having prescribed iron supplements as I was deficient. Now at 33 weeks the pains have gotten worse again as baby is compressing everything and trapping everything from moving!!! Hope you don't suffer for long it's really awful. Especially when it's accompanied with haemorrhoids!

Phie04 · 31/01/2021 14:39

Also, I couldn't go at all for about 4/5 days. One glass of fybogel and things got moving the next day!

Wireless77 · 31/01/2021 19:41

Experienced both, watery loose stools and a little constipation early on. Now 11 weeks and for the last 2-3 weeks things feel rather constipated. I eat a lot of fruit and actually go twice a day, morning and evening. But it takes time and it feels things are not moving. Often need to take a hot shower which somehow seems to loosen tummy muscles and then it's easier. Having pretty constant abdominal ache/pressure. Always much better after I go and then it creeps back. Also feels there is a lot of trapped wind, but it only comes out a little when I go to pee (at the end of peeing). Using 800mg progesterone per day which probably does not help... The pressure/ache (mainly when standing/walking) is a worry though scans so far have been fine.

I’m currently going through the this. I’m now week 13 and have had it pretty much since week one. A bowl of bransflakes a day gets things moving for me!

I'd recommend lactose. It has been a lifesaver for me.
