Hi guys. I’m stm 9 weeks pregnant and nearly 18 stone 🤦‍♀️ I was trying to lose Weight before try but that’s not quite worked out as you can see. Midwife said I’m high risk and I’ve
Been prescribed extra folic acid and vitamin d. Anyone else. I’m so worried now being labelled high risk! 😭

So happy to have found this thread! I'm 5+5 today but not seen anyone medical since finding out I was pregnant so I'm just taking pregnacare which is only 400mg of folic acid.

Would it be worth giving the midwife/gp a call for a prescription of a higher dose? My booking appointment is 25th feb so I'm not sure if they'd make me wait until then!

I also tried to lose weight before getting pregnant thinking it would take forever, lost a stone through January and then got my bfp!

@sunflowerx

I rang my gp to ask for higher folic acid when I was around 6.5 weeks :) they were happy to prescribe them easily!

@Bubbles1st hi I was told no not allowed to take the pregnacare alongside it. Unsure if you can take the omega capsule if you have those ones though. I’ve taken the omega one every few days as wasn’t sure if I could. But definitely not the pregnacare

@Sunflowerx that’s good then glad you were given them so easily rather then having to wait

Hi all

I am also interested in this thread, those of you who have had previous pregnancies how did they go and how was the birth, I am very worried about the risks to baby, with higher BMI, I knew about the risks to Mum, but not baby E.g higher risk of stillbirth, longer labour, bigger baby, difficult labour e.g forceps delivery and 40% chance of EMCS. All this makes me want an ELCS? Are these risks really as bad as the internet makes out, my MW was no help on this?

Inkpaperstars · 10/02/2021 22:21

I was told that it is ok to take the Pregnacare alongside the 5mg folic acid, and have done so throughout this pregnancy! I understood that you just wee out any excess folic acid. Hope that wasn’t a mistake..

Booboospud · 11/02/2021 01:05

@Inkpaperstars hope I’ve not worried you. That’s just what midwife told me. But then again I’m taking vitamin d tablets too so this could be why 🤷‍♀️. Tbh I was abit miffed because the pregnacare has so many vitamins in it doesn’t make sense not giving me a tablet for the additional units of folic acid to make it up to 500 rather then me lose all those extra vitamins in the pregnacare.

Don’t worry Booboo. I will check with the midwife though at some point! It could well be the vit D because that is one you can overdose on and build up to toxic levels I think. Actually I would like to take some extra vit D but have been hesitant as not sure how much I can add given what is already in the pregnacare. So hard to get it balanced!

Booboospud · 11/02/2021 16:06

@Inkpaperstars they just gave me 10 of the vitamin d which is the same amount in the pregnacare but worth asking about

@Bubbles1st

Hi, I've just been prescribed the higher dose of folic acid. Does anyone know if I can continue to take my pregnancare vitamins with it in too?
I am on the 5g of folic acid. I asked the pharmacist when I collected the prescription and he said keep taking the pregnacare as well as there is no issue as the folic acid in that is minimal anyway.

I've just come across this site if anyone hasn't seen it yet:
plussizebirth.com/

It is American but full of good information, pictures and positive stories
