16 week check-up - what to ask?

Hi everyone

I've got my 16 week check-up today and have no idea what to expect... or what to ask! Is there anything you'd recommend I'd bring up at this stage?

Beyond a bit of backache and the odd headache I've got no symptoms/side effects to ask about. Is it too soon to start talking about birth plans?!

Thanks x

Birth plans is usually 36 weeks, my 16 week appointment was cancelled but I believe they ll take your blood pressure and discuss your blood test results

There’s not much you can really ask at 16 weeks if you have no concerns yourself. It will be to go over your blood tests that they had taken, do your blood pressure and then really they let you go. They usually discuss booking you in for your 20 week scan. If you don’t yet have a date for your 20 week scan and they don’t bring it up, mention it to them. That’s all really. Good luck! 😊

They don't start fundal measurements until later - in my notes the chart doesn't even start until 24 weeks and my first measurement was at 28 weeks.

My 16 week appt was:

  • Ask how I am
  • Ask about what support I have at home
  • Check blood pressure
  • Check urine sample (take one with you if you can - everyone seems to want your pee when you're pregnant)
  • Listen to baby's heartbeat (can be hard to find so early)
  • Check that I have 20wk scan booked
  • Book in 24 week check up

I also asked about a couple of things that were going on for me but if you don't have anything you don't have to make anything up! I even asked "is there anything I should be doing or asking about?" and they said not - it's still really early.

24 week appointment is the same tbh except that they can give you your MatB1 form if you didn't get it at the 20wk scan.

I asked more admin type things

  • How often will I see you after this?
  • How do I get my MatB1 form for work
  • How do I get my flu & whooping cough jab

mine was over the phone so didn't get blood pressure etc.
