Hi everyone,

I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of Jan, a few days later I started spotting and went to my local EPU.

After many, many blood tests and scans they told me my hormone level was dropping and that the pregnancy wasn't viable. This was obviously devastating and we've spend the past couple of weeks crying and mourning.
They told me to come back today as I'd had no more pain/bleeding for one last scan then to discuss medically inducing the miscarriage.

This morning I had a bit of cramping and spotting (first time since the initial spotting in the 1st week) and assumed this would be the beginning of the miscarriage. However the scan showed a heartbeat! Which they hadn't seen before and told me it looked like a normal 5.5 week pregnancy (they told me I should be between 7-9 weeks based on dates)
They were baffled and the nurse told me she hasn't seen anything like this before, they were convinced the pregnancy had ended. They're still not convinced everything will be ok and I have to go back in a week to see if there has been any growth.

This was obviously the biggest shock and now I'm so scared the spotting and cramping is me about to miscarry.
I guess I'm just looking for anyone with similar stories? Or if you've heard of this before? My head is all over the place and I honestly don't know what to do/think!

Hi, this sounds so stressful @Mugcake. When was your last period? Maybe you conceived a little later than originally thought? I am also in early pregnancy, experiencing cramps at the moment and don't feel pregnant, so am convinced will miscarry but nothing so far.

I have no experience or ever heard of a story like yours. But I can tell you that I had early bleeding in this pregnancy 4 to 5 times. Mostly like a light period but on 2 occasions blood was deep red with clots and tissue and had some cramping along with it. I was sure I was miscarrying. Im now 25 weeks and all is fine. I will never know why i bled, it was just left at well its just one of those things. Tho bleeding is abnormal and always needs reported, it does happen more often that what people think. Sending love your way, let us know how it goes of you can. Good Luck

@slightlybonkers my last AF was 26th November but my cycle has been all over the place, sometimes skipping a period completely so it's completely possible that I was only 2 weeks pregnant when I found out. Which would make me around 5 weeks now. The nurses just keep telling me I should be further along and that the pregnancy was going to fail. My HGC was dropping too. I just don't understand whats happening in there!

@PFin that's good to know! It's only been slight bleeding and a bit of cramping, it's just so hard to know if I should be hopeful or continue thinking that I'm going to lose this little one. I'll let you guys know next week after my scan! Fingers crossed!

Could it have been possibly twins with high hcg and sadly you lost a twin, resulting in the hcg drop?

Mugcake · 29/01/2021 13:00

@hotpinkangel19 that's was suggested to account for the drop in HGC although they hadn't been able to see anything on the ultrasound before yesterday so no way to know for sure! Twins runs in my family though so it would make sense if that's what happened. It's just been such a shock! And now I'm spotting again I'm terrified! Hoping it stops like last time and this little one will be ok
