Hi!

I just wanted to come on and ask if this was anyone else’s case too?
I’m currently 8+4 weeks and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
Only thing is I have cycles that last 33 days and my period usually last about 5-6 days, my partner and I had unprotected sex for most of December last year (obviously haha) and found out end of December we’re expecting! I went for an early scan as I was having the worst pains in my hips and lower stomach and the scan had dated me 6 days earlier than I expected so that would mean I conceived 3 days after my actual period ended so day 9 into my cycle, I’m confused how as my periods are longer so wouldn’t I have not ovulated later?
Has this happened to anyone else?
(I’m not worrying over it I’m just curious because I didn’t know it could happen!)
Thanks!

Scans are only estimates they’re not perfect. Early scans are even less accurate, that’s why nhs don’t go by dates for scans until the 12 week one. My dates got brought forward which would put me as conceiving the day I came off my period which I know I didn’t. There’s been people that know exactly when they conceived due to IVF and the scans have still dated different.

I wouldn't take an early scan measurements as the correct due date. Even the dating scan can be a little off sometimes.

Our eldest the dating scan put me 10 days ahead of my dates but at the anomaly scan she was measuring 9 days behind for dates so more in line with lmp. They wouldn't change her due date. Our younger 4's dates have tallied up pretty well with the scans though.

I conceived DS on day 5 ( unintentionally) and Dd on day 9 (intentionally) but I do have short cycles (23/24 days).
Congratulations I hooe you aren't feeling too sick.Flowers

WalkingMeAway · 28/01/2021 09:24

I conceived this baby (according to 4 matching scans including the NHS & NIPT scan) on CD 7! I do have shorter cycles (24 days). I think there’s room for error of judgement and you may find your actual dating scan has your conception date a bit further on.

Congratulations anyhow !

Thanks for messaging back guys!
Yeah I didn’t even think about that for a second haha! Yeah it might change now on my 12 weeks! Can’t wait for it only 3 and a bit more weeks to go! Haha, yeah I’ve been wondering about it as my cycles are longer I was thinking maybe it’s an old egg and there would be problems when the pregnancy?
Thank you so much @babyyodaxmas and @WalkingMeAway for the congrats! 💕

All your eggs are old really, they've been with you from before birth.
As for release, you only get af to clear any eggs released that month so they're fresh releases each cycle. Don't over think it.

@Chelyanne ahh brill I didn’t know that! (I should read up on things more haha) thank you for clearing it up for me! ☺️

DM also concieved DB on day 5 !
DB is 33 and fine. DS is 16, Dd is 14 and are as ok as a typical pair of teenagers cooped up in a lockdown. But pregnancies and child births all fine.

@babyyodaxmas thank you so much for replying, puts my pregnant mind at rest! Start to think about things you never thought you would! 🙄
Ahh bless them! Haha thank you again!

Hi there. I have a really short cycle (24 days) and tend to ovulate around day 8, so that means about 4 days after my period ends. I had an early dating scan at what I thought was 10w exactly and was told I was 10+6. Looking forward to finding out a more exact date at my 12 week scan, which will probably actually be around 13 weeks for me.

Don't worry at all - I read a medical study about short cycles and early ovulation when I was trying to conceive because I was worried, and it really doesn't matter when the egg is implanted so long as you make it past the first two weeks. Good luck!

WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot1 · 28/01/2021 12:13

I apparently conceived my baby whilst I was still pregnant with the last one (a few days before my miscarriage started) if you go by the dating scans. They're now measuring even bigger!

SingingSands · 28/01/2021 12:18

My scans never lined up. According to my first dating scan I had conceived DS whilst on my period. Yeah, right.

lisa2021 · 28/01/2021 12:25

@WolfMother326 thank you for commenting!
The only thing is my cycles are longer than usual and they’re 33 days on average sometimes shorter! This cycle was 33 days exactly so I was assuming I would ovulate later but going from the scan I’ve had I would have ovulated day 9 so 3 days after my period actually ended, so maybe my eggs aren't mature enough 😩 but when I had the scan she said everything looks perfect and in the right place and found baby’s heart beat too so if that a good sign or will there be problems later on with baby or pregnancy? Sorry for the long winded reply there!

@lisa2021 I have a friend who is 5 months pregnant and had the same thing as you. She had a cycle that was pretty regular, like 31 days I think, but her ovulation date changed every month really wildly and she was super early on ovulation the month she conceived. Like I said, she's more than halfway done and the baby is heealthy! I think every body is different, but it's good to trust our bodies and let it do its thing! If you've had a good scan with a heartbeat I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about! Smile

lisa2021 · 28/01/2021 12:39

@WolfMother326 thank you so much! Really lovely to hear about your friend!
Yeah of course, totally agree just got to let the body do it’s thing, I don’t usually worry or stress about things but every little thing I am at the moment as this baby is so so wanted!
Thank you so much again! Congrats to you as well with your little one and good luck for your 12 week scan :)
