I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hiya @Ttcbn2 I think stemetil might be a good addition to your drug regime as it is supposed to help with dizziness too.

Also, sympathies with daughter isolating. Mine is too. I'm just lying down barely interacting with her. It's awful really.

As for work next week, surely you'll have to go off sick?

Aranciata · 21/07/2021 22:15

Just sending best wishes and cooling thoughts in this heat to you all suffering so badly. 💐

I am very fortunate to be feeling well enough to manage, eating more variety of foods, less nausea, nearly back to pre pregnancy weight.
I feel guilty to write that and wish the same for all, but thought if I didn't update people might think I'm off the radar because there was no improvement.

Ttcbn2 · 22/07/2021 06:50

@thingymaboob spoken to my manager and she says we’ll see how I go? I’m on shorter shifts so I’m going to go in and see how it goes but I know it’ll be horrific and I can’t see me lasting long x

thingymaboob · 22/07/2021 08:54

@Ttcbn2 it doesn't sound very supportive from your manager. It's not up to them whether you're well enough. I struggled in so much in my first pregnancy and it was awful and no one will thank you for it. Poor you. I can't imagine going anywhere near work at the moment

Ttcbn2 · 22/07/2021 08:54

Spoke to a different dr and she has prescribed stemetil.. I’m praying that these give me some relief! X

abbs1 · 22/07/2021 19:43

Anyone else with awful nausea get chills? My whole body aches and ive got a terrible headache too. Ive felt so sick today been lying down and hardly able to eat or drink much. 6+5 today. Not sure if its a hormone surge or what but i feel terrible. The heat hasn't helped.
Sorry for the rant. Hope everyone is coping ok.

JessicaM2021 · 22/07/2021 20:02

@abbs1 awe I’m sorry to hear you’re doing poorly. Yes I remember those chills like they were yesterday. After each big vomit session I’d get them and body aches and it would almost feel like I had the flu. I think since the vomiting was so violent is what caused all that with me. I’m sure the heat isn’t helping at all! Hang in there! I finally started feeling better maybe around week 15/16. I’m almost 23 weeks now and happy to say doing much better but still on promethazine and ondansetron.

I was trying to remember from my last pregnancy but couldn't. I just remember being so weak and shaky and my body hurt so bad.
The heat has made my nausea so much worse! Last time i didn't feel better until 22 weeks and was on medication up until i gave birth so im hoping it doesnt take that long this time.

Im really glad you are doing much better.

thingymaboob · 22/07/2021 20:28

@abbs1 I get these chill things too. Think body is in sick from the violent and persistent vomiting. Also, being sick does take a toll on muscles. I am normally on my hands and knees and definitely feel achy. It's hard work!

Ive managed not to throw up today only just but the nausea has been so bad. Hopefully it passes soon. Making me feel so much worse.

LucindaE · 22/07/2021 20:56

Much sympathy to those with aching and the shivers and for those having to isolate. The heat is the last straw.
abbs1 Sorry about a bad day; I hope tomorrow is better.
Aranciata Thank you so much for keeping us informed. It was nice of you to call in to report the improvement, and it's encouraging to those in the early stages to read reports of those who have improved, so don't feel bad about reporting that you feel a lot better.
JessicaM2021 I am happy to hear that things have got a lot better and that combination is helping.
Ttcbn2 Do get a sick note if you can. It's hard to cope at work. Five violent sessions of heaving add up to quite a lot using the one heave equals one vomit method that many medics do. It's exhausting, as others say.
thingymaboob Good suggestion.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. Thinking of you all.

Hi everyone, I started my new medication yesterday and although I still don’t feel great I have only vomited a tiny bit today and I managed to go to the shops!!! I haven’t been out of the house in nearly 2 weeks!! X

LucindaE · 23/07/2021 20:46

Ttcbn2 That is good: congtratulations on getting out to the shops.

I hope abbs1 and everyone suffering badly is having a better day.
I didn't think it was quite so hot today.

@LucindaE its been another rough day. Had a high fever last night and now ive got tonsillitis. No idea where its come from but not sure if i can take anything for it so gotta wait till Monday to speak to my dr. Not what i need when im already feeling rubbish.
I have got an early scan booked in a couple weeks time so thats a little something to look forward to!
Yes im so happy its cooler outside. Thats definitely helped.

LindSan · 24/07/2021 02:15

LindSan

Hi, I’m 12 weeks pregnant and suffering really bad. I started getting sick around 4.5 weeks. I couldn’t hold down liquid so I went to the ER and they gave me Reglan. It worked for a few weeks but then stopped. I started vomiting all the time. I have now been put on Zofran for the last few weeks but it doesn’t help with the nausea. However it allows me to keep down food and water for the most part. I have to eat every 1.5 hours unless I will start heaving. My nausea is so extreme it wakes me up every two hours all night long. I haven’t gotten a good nights rest in months. I don’t know if I have bad pregnancy sickness or hyperemesis. Does this sound like it to you?

Ttcbn2 · 24/07/2021 15:37

Thank you, more or less back to normal today though, haven’t left bed! This sucks!! Xx
thingymaboob · 24/07/2021 17:33

@Ttcbn2 if it's any consolation I'm back in bed now too. I'm eating ok but throwing a fair amount back up. The nausea is too much today. 8mg ondansetron brought some relief but not entirely

Ttcbn2 · 24/07/2021 18:50

@thingymaboob it’s bloody awful isn’t it!! X

abbs1 · 24/07/2021 19:33

For anyone that is interested for current hg pregnancy or wanting another baby but scared because of hg returning this is what i was advised to ask for - Xonvea.

www.google.com/amp/s/www.baby-magazine.co.uk/pregnancy-morning-sickness-pill-prescription-uk/amp/

Honestly so far its been a life saver. Ive taken it since 5 weeks pregnant. Ive taken the full dose since week 6 and its now built up in my system and i feel like i can function with daily life unlike my last pregnancy where i was bed bound from 5 weeks and in hospital on a daily basis. They say to take it as soon as you find out your pregnant but it can help even once symptoms have started.

It only became licensed in 2018 which is why many GPs are not aware of the drug yet but if you can ask for it please give it a go and I really hopes it helps.

Sending hugs to all those suffering. 🤗

nomeslice · 24/07/2021 19:39

@abbs1 that's really good information thank you. I will definitely be asking about it next review I have with my GP. I made it to 12 weeks and I am waiting for my symptoms to magically disappear as my GP keeps telling me.. (yeah, right...) but on the bright side havent vomited for 2 days which is a new record. Nausea still constant but able to eat a bit more. All I've wanted the last few days is plain rice!

Please do! I really hope it helps. Ive been told you can take it alongside ondansatron as well if needed but get thst double checked.
HG sufferers normally dont feel better until 15-20 weeks from what my gynaecologist doctor told me last time but for me it didnt lessen until 22 weeks and then ondansatron and metoclopromide kept basically all my vomiting and nausea away until i gave birth. Hang in there. You are doing amazing. Thats excellent you can eat some rice! I found if i let mysel3get hungry i felt so much worse so i kept banana by my bed at night and would take little bites throughout the night when i felt hungry and it helped even if i did end up throwing it up i hoped it helped nourish me for a bit.

LucindaE · 24/07/2021 21:34

LindSan Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. Did they prescribe a laxative with the Ondansetron/Zofran as tied up bowels are often a problem with that medication? That certainly sounds far worse than any normal , even severe, pregnancy sickness. You'll find plenty of support on here. I include my normal spiel that might help. Most sufferers find that they improve a lot at some point between weeks 14 and 20. Even those who are unlucky enough to suffer throughout generally are not as ill later on as they are in the first part. A good anti acid can make a surprising difference to the sickness. Kesostix are worth buying online or from a chemists, as while they aren't they best test of dehydration, hospitals take them seriously. When reporting on the vomiting to doctors, remember to emphasize the number of heaves in each vomiting session, as doctors tend to count these as 'vomits' and this can lead to their underestimating the severity of your symptoms. Besides drinking through a straw, here are some drinks that have helped others: full sugar flat coke (if you don't find it too acid), ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Lucozade, apple juice, Ribina, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, tonic water, ice cubes, Iron Bru, lemonade, lemon squash, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), fizzy orange, 7Up, isotonic drinks, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy water, apple juice, Robinson's fruit drinks, Rubicon sparkling mango drink , raspberry Lucozade sport and frozen ice cubes of flat Lucozade sport . Foods of a sort include tinned fruit, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, bagels and biscuits and slices of melon and mango. Protein drinks have also been mentioned.
abbs1 Great advice as ever for nomeslice and everyone. I am glad that Xonvea has helped a lot,but I am sorry to hear of tonsilitis. How horrible. The swollen throat with that is nauseating without Hyperemesis. Yes, at least it isn't quite so hot.
Thingymaboob and Ttcbn2 Sorry to hear that you are bedbound today. Hoping for better days for you.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

That really sounds like you're dehydrated. That's what I was like when I got admitted to hospital. How much liquid are you getting in you?
