I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ttcbn2 and abbs1. That does sound horrible; as bad or worse than having to spit all the time. As ''thingymaboob* says, is dehydration creeping up on you?

Ttcbn2 · 25/07/2021 21:09

I’ve actually had quite a bit today and I haven’t been sick at all! Touch wood!! Feel much better today! Xx

LucindaE · 26/07/2021 17:45

Ttcbn2 Good news. I hope everyone is coping. It's very hot again here in Mid Wales, but at least there is a breeze.

Ttcbn2 I forgot to say; never worry about tmi on this thread...

Morning, just here to moan. 11+1 today. Crippled with nausea, it is so intense. Was woken up constantly in night with nausea. Trying so hard not to vomit. I'm just going to succumb and lie on the bathroom floor, I can't fight this anymore. I have no energy. I don't want to be pregnant, I feel I've grown distant from my DD because I can't look after her. I hate this.

LindSan · 27/07/2021 11:21

@thingymaboob 11 weeks was my worst week by far. I barely sleep because of my nausea too. I started vomiting a bit more because when the nausea peaks it’s like entering the lion’s den. It’s a never ending cycle. I’m with you. I don’t want to be preggo either and I am only a week ahead of you. Doesn’t seem worth the suffering. If I would have known I wouldn’t have done it.

LucindaE · 27/07/2021 21:52

thingymaboob and Lindsan Much sympathy. Things will get better. I promise you it will be worth it. I regret not going for a second. LO's will soon forget this period of comparative neglect. Eleven weeks is a hellish time and twelve weeks can be so discouraging when there isn't that improvement those with ordinary MS often get, though even with that people often suffer past 14 weeks...

LindSan · 27/07/2021 22:30

@LucindaE Thank you for the encouragement. I really needed it today.

Ttcbn2 · 28/07/2021 10:02

Makes me so sad coming on here and seeing people struggle so much, it is bloody awful and I wish everyone some relief!!

I had 2 really bad days, went back to drs and was prescribed ondansetron alongside my stemetil, praying for a better day today x

abbs1 · 28/07/2021 19:50

Sending hugs to all those suffering so badly at the moment. Week 11 was just horrendous for me last time and i wanted to give up over and over again. Its so hard to stay strong but you will get through it and I promise it does get better around 15-20 weeks. When i first heard that I just cried and cried as it felt like a lifetime away but i got there and it was true and felt a bit more human again and could function a bit more.
Im here supporting you all and send my sympathese to you.

LucindaE · 28/07/2021 21:01

Lindsan I am glad it helped when needed.
I hope you, thingymaboob and others are feeling somewhat better
today.
Ttcbn2 I hope that really helps.
abbs1 Good advice, as ever.
Sympathies to all.

Just went to add to @abbs1 & @LucindaE promises that it will get better!!
I'm 16 wks now & so much better. Down to 1 ondansetron a day, which I'm going to cut out soon. Nausea & vomiting have been at bay for a week now. Eating & drinking so much more than I was albeit still plain food nothing too flavoursome. Almost back at my original weight after losing 5kg. Only problem I have is still a big lack of energy but I will take that, I'll have plenty of time in a few months to go walks!!

Hang in there ladies.. I know it's easier said that done but take each day as an accomplishment to one closer to an improvement.

thingymaboob · 29/07/2021 13:18

Hiya. Crushing nausea and relentless vomiting today. Vomiting is so violent I've taken to not wearing knickers as I just can't help but pee all over toilet floor. Does anyone else pee themselves when vomiting is very bad? Since vomiting stopped I've drunk a pint of ribena so that's good. Hoping to drink two more pints today. That's my only aim today.

LucindaE · 29/07/2021 21:38

LilmissCa Thank you so much for your encouraging message for those in the throes of it. I am so happy you are so much better at 16 weeks.
thingymaboob Sorry to hear it's violent. Lots of sufferers have that. I wet myself when heaving so often I got in the habit of whipping them off as I ran for the loo, but as I wore long dresses, like you, I might as well have given up on wearing any.

@thingymaboob sorry for very late reply been struggling so much with fatigue I’m not always up to replying. I was given stemil in hospital I think. The gynae wanted it prescribed to take home but the midwife refused saying they don’t normally do that. When I complained they said if I got worse again I could get it from my GP. I couldn’t remember what it was called when I rang them though and the only two drugs GP could think of beginning with S he said he wouldn’t prescribe during pregnancy. So I’ve had to make do but I have found staggering onadestran and metaclomide (or whatever it’s called) is now getting me through the day as the nausea is starting to improve now anyway. Are you finding any relief yet?

Apologies to anyone else I missed.

LucindaE · 31/07/2021 20:51

InvisibleDreamer Sorry to hear about the fatique. I am glad the nausea is improving. Most sufferers do get an improvement as time goes on.
I don't understand that refusal by the hospital at all, but maybe I am being obtuse. Was that them refusing to prescribe Stemetil along with Ondansetron and Metaclopramide as they thought they shouldn't be mixed, or did they even refuse to prescribe Stemetil just by itself?
Waves to all. I hope nobody has been flooded.

InvisibleDreamer Sorry, that was 'fatigue'!

Anxious9thPG · 01/08/2021 08:47

Hi everyone. Thought I'd drop in to see how everyone is getting along. Sympathies to those at the dreaded 11 week mark. I haven't vomited since 18 weeks, I'm 33 weeks now. The nausea is still there daily, managed with cyclizine. I'm living a pretty normal life compared to before so must be grateful! Can't imagine a day without feeling sick! Worst part has been trying to explain to people that even though I no longer look like sh**e, I still feel like it! 😄

Musicmonday · 01/08/2021 10:31

So after a good run being able to eat and drink a little bit more than usual, I’m now back to square one with the nausea.
I can only sip little bits of water or the odd bit of milk again now and the dreaded heartburn has started.
I’m 20 weeks now, does anyone know if there’s a hormone surge or anything this week?
All I want to do is sleep again ☹️

thingymaboob · 01/08/2021 17:34

@InvisibleDreamer it's so strange that you couldn't get stemetil. There's so much inconsistency amongst HCPs. How are you getting on today?

I'm 12 weeks today. Was hoping to wake up and for the nightmare to be all over but alas, the nightmare continues. I'm only vomiting twice a day but the nausea is so intense I cannot do anything. I've got another 3 weeks signed off work. I cannot imagine being ok enough to walk 40 minutes into work then work for 8 hours (I am a trainer in a hospital). I'm almost in a collapsed state walking to local Tesco (two roads away). I'm not bothered about getting more time off apart from being bored and housebound. I've got a cardiology appointment this week (pregnancy related palpitations) and my 12 week scan so the week feels busy.

thingymaboob · 01/08/2021 17:36

@Musicmonday sorry to hear your suffering again. It's so cruel that it comes back for some of us. I think I remember feeling rough again for a week around 20 weeks as I felt awful at my scan. 💐

Thank you. Think it’s knocked me for six as I was doing so well.
Funny enough I have my scan tomorrow. Fingers crossed it eases off again soon.

thingymaboob · 01/08/2021 19:53

@Musicmonday hope the scan goes well. Fingers crossed it eases

LucindaE · 01/08/2021 21:32

Musicmonday There definitely is a hormonal surge at 20 weeks. Your and thingymaboob's experience is typicial. I hope you feel a lot better soon.
Anxious9thPG I am glad the vomiting stopped weeks ago,but sympathies about still feeling bad - and well put.
thingymaboob I hope you get relief soon. Anecdotally, from what I've learned even normal pregnancy sickness often goes on past the textbook 12 weeks, to 14 or even 16 weeks. I'm glad you can get a sick note as certainly you're not up to returning to work.
