5+5w worrying about cramping mainly on one side

I'm 5+5. First pregnancy. At the beginning I had some mild cramping all over however in the last week i feel it more often on the left on its own. A couple of times I have felt it on the right on its own but it's definitely more often on the left and stronger when I feel it there. I don't have cramping all the time, just every so often, and it's not painful or sore, just like a mild pressure. Is this anything to worry about? I keep seeing things come up about ectopic pregnancies which terrifies me as I had Chlamydia twice about 15 years ago (please don't judge I was young and stupid), but I found out and had it treated almost immediately (within 1-2 weeks) both times.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I had cramping at the beginning of my pregnancy too and sometimes felt it was one sided. I think cramping is quite common and generally very normal. I also used to worry too and spent lots of time googling but all was fine. Obviously you know your body best and if you are really worried or it gets worse then get it checked out but it's likely to all be fine.

Thanks so much for replying! I'm hoping it's nothing as it feels the exact same as a pressure that I get in that spot when I'm not pregnant, usually some time near to ovulation I think. This is making me wonder if it could be a cyst or something as in the past I've had a doctor comment on my cysts in an ovarian scan. I don't know, I'm probably just looking into everything and overthinking. If it gets any worse then I'll get it checked out but will try to relax for now and not overthink.

Hi @Tallybeebloom
I am 6 weeks tomorrow and keep getting the same type of cramps, again feel like on one side but do get them on the other.

I mentioned to midwife last week and she said it can happen when everything stretching. I have an appointment again on Tuesday and will feed back if I hear anything different. I'm not bleeding either so she said that's a good sign.

You know your body and if it doesn't feel quite right there's no harm in ringing the GP, though I suspect they won't refer to the EPU unless you are bleeding or in excruciating pain (Especially at the moment!). I came to the view that they wouldn't see anything on a scan at this stage anyway, and couldn't do anything even if they did, so I'm going to hang fire but if it gets worse I'll ring them.

Might be worth keeping a little diary/ note to see if there's any pattern to it.

Good luck, hopefully this is all just completely normal!

I had painful cramps on one side in my 1st PG (woke me up in the night) and when I told the midwife they did refer me for a scan. The pregnancy was in the right location. If you are very concerned by the pain you could call your GP.

I had bad cramps on and off up until about 8 weeks and they were always on the left. I definitely ovulated from the left side that month so I think that was why. All has turned out fine x

I've not felt anything today so that has got me worrying too. I'm just going to question and worry about every little thing i feel or don't feel for the next 7 1/2 months (hopefully!) amn't I?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Flowers I had cramps a lot in the first ten weeks. It felt like period pain. It was the womb stretching and opening up and was perfectly normal. If it gets too painful or there is blood then call your midwife.

Oh and as an add on (following your last comment) my cramps didn’t last all the time. There were days or parts of days when I felt fine. That’s normal too!
