I posted last week about some difficulties I was having in early pregnancy.
Long story short, I had my last period towards the end of November and am pretty sure I conceived around Christmas day. I had a private early scan around 7 weeks as I wanted to make sure that everything was progressing as it should. The scan only revealed a gestational sac and a yolk sac, but no developing cells/embryo.
A couple of days later I started to have reddish-brown discharge, and had painful cramps. I had a scan at my local EPU which was inconclusive. They said it could go either way and booked me in for a second scan to see if there had been any growth.
For the last week and a bit I've continued to have the discharge (it even had a couple of blood clots in it once) and light pink spotting. I've had bad cramps and no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever.
I had the scan today and was convinced it would be bad news. I didn't feel pregnant at all and had almost come to terms with it. They kept the monitor off as well which I took as a bad sign. They couldn't see much with the abdominal scanner so I had to have a transvaginal scan. The sonographer fiddled about a bit and then asked if I wanted the monitor turned on.
There it was - my tiny 5mm embryo complete with heartbeat
Apparently I have a long cycle which can mess up the dates!
I know I've got a long way to go and am not out of the woods yet, but I wanted to share this story in case it offered even a glimmer of hope to anyone going through similar. For the last week I've been convincing myself I was miscarrying or going to miscarry based on similar stories I'd read, so just wanted to put a positive story out there!
