Please can anyone please offer their experiences :-(

I had a moderate early pregnancy bleed 9 days ago, HCG was 39 and they diagnosed me with a miscarriage.

48 hours later HCG had doubled so they thought baby may have survived the bleed.

7 days later- HCG should be 1000 if baby still alive. Result is 300.

So they're thinking its probably ectopic. Need another test in 48 hours.

Please give me your experiences. The hospital are very 'factual' about everything and don't show any empathy or sympathy at all. My husband isn't allowed in to the hospital with me. The whole experience is horrible and I'm scared :-(

I'm so sorry Op. it's a totally shitty thing to happen. I had a similar experience after a round of IVF a few years ago and unfortunately there's no quick solution. I remember the options being to have an injection - methotrexate I think? Or wait and see if my HCG dropped to zero on it's own.

I said no to the injection, as you can't try to get pregnant again for 3/4 months afterwards. I went back and forward to the hospital for about two ish weeks having my bloods done every 48 hours, but eventually the HCG dropped to zero on its own.

Hand hold and take care of yourself.

Hi lovely, sorry this is happening to you Flowers I had an ectopic in April and know how scary it can be. How far along are you? Have they mentioned sending you for a scan?

LovesFood1987 · 28/01/2021 07:36

Thanks very much for your replies :-) had a scan yesterday because I felt dizzy and had a stabbing pain in my abdomen, they're talking about surgery being the main option if it's started bleeding... Had yours started bleeding?

MrsB2019x · 28/01/2021 08:20

@LovesFood1987 Yeah i started bleeding a couple of days before my BFP but it was more of a brownish colour.. then the day after the full on red started and was on/off until I got treatment. Surprised they are saying they’ll do surgery seeing as your HCG is quite low and could probably treat you with the injection instead? Make sure they talk you through all your treatment options so you can have an informed choice

Sorry you're going through this OP.

I had a recent un-ruptured ectopic that we thought was a miscarriage at first. The hospital were the same with me too, no real acknowledgment of the emotional pain other than handing me some counselling flyers.

I personally found reading up on the NICE guidelines enormously helpful. They helped me to understand what might be going on, the different treatment options for miscarriage and ectopic and when each is recommended. It also helped to ask the right questions of the doctors and push for what I needed. (Someone even asked me if I had a background in caring/nursing 🤣 as I seemed to know my stuff. Couldn't be further from the truth!)

Wishing you all the best, keep up posted.

I’ve been through this, my HCG levels kept rising. I can’t remember now what they where but I ended up having the injection and had to keep going back to the hospital every week to check my numbers. The whole process took about 6/7 weeks. ❤️

I’m so sorry OP. It is a particular form of torture, the not knowing. The NICE guidance link above is a really helpful document as is the RCOG fact sheet if it is an ectopic, to help you get your head around it - www.rcog.org.uk/en/patients/patient-leaflets/ectopic-pregnancy/

My hcg was over 1,000 by the time my pregnancy was visible on the scan and it had doubled within the 48h timeframe, which I was told was a bit unusual. My progesterone wasn’t good and that was the key indicator that the pregnancy wasn’t viable. It was when my hcg doubled that they made me come back in and found it on the scan.

I am really sorry, OP. I hope you are as well as can be and have been looked after. Let us know how you are getting on when you can.
