Hi all, I'm 7w2d and everything was going fantastic. (TW for upcoming talk of loss and bleed details that may be upsetting for some) I was actually prepping to tell my boss about the pregnancy as I had been feeling a bit poorly and wanted to be transparent. Yesterday I went to the loo and to my shock my underwear looked as if I had gotten my period unexpectedly. It hadn't soaked through to my jeans, but I wiped and there was red blood. I stayed on the toilet a few minutes and when I got up had bled into the toilet, there was a streak and the water was slightly red as well. I panicked and called my doctor's office and told them what happened, about 15 minutes later they called and said they squeezed me in for a scan tomorrow (now today). I sat about an hour and kept wiping every few minutes, each time I did there was red blood. Just spotting red at that point, not enough to bleed into the toilet or on a pad. I did not see any tissue or things that would make me think the baby had passed, but I'm concerned that I've miscarried. The bleeding eventually stopped and I was wiping clear after a few hours, I got up this morning and there's no sign of blood now either. Just wondering what to expect as I'm feeling very shaken. I'm confused as I wonder if it was a MC if I would have kept on bleeding? Wondering if anyone else had this and is it always grim news?

It's not always grim news. There are many things that can cause bleeding in pregnancy and from what I read I believe about half of women who have bleeding go on to have a successful pregnancy. You should be able to find out what is happening at your scan tomorrow and I hope it is good news for you. Sorry this is happening - I know it's really worrying.

@secondorange I had a very similar experience to you, at around the same stage of pregnancy - I went to the loo and saw what basically looked and felt like my period had arrived. It was a proper flow of bright red blood, and it was shocking and devastating because I immediately thought I was miscarrying.

The bleeding slowed down and stopped within about twelve hours; during that time I went to the EPAU where they took a blood sample to check my hormone levels (no scan was offered, not sure why). They phoned me the next day to tell me my hcg levels were within the normal range, but by then the bleeding had stopped, and as I already had a private scan scheduled for the following week, they didn't do anything further.

At the scan, everything was fine, and to this day I don't know what caused the bleeding - DD is a happy, healthy one year old. It seems that random bleeding during pregnancy doesn't always mean the worst.

I hope you're okay and wish you the best of luck Thanks

I had a miscarriage about 4-5 years ago at around 7/8 weeks. Wait and see what happens at the scan. No need to panic. I cant remember what happened at my scan but I don't think it was conclusive. They asked me to come back in a week. However, I went home and the bleeding got worse and the cramping was horrendous so it was very obviously a miscarriage. I'm not a medical professional but I think if it was a miscarriage it would be a lot heavier bleeding accompanied with pain. Mine did start with mild bleeding but you just won't know until later. Sorry not reassuring! Daffodil

I had this in my last pregnancy at 8 weeks just a once off episode of bleeding! Booked a private scan for later that day and all was fine and mentioned to midwife who said it can happen and not to worry and thing the worst straight away. Hope everything is ok x
