Evening, All

Has anyone experienced constant urine infections during their pregnancy?

I'm on my 5th bout of antibiotics. I have constant infections, one after the other. I finish the medication and a couple of days later, l start with the same symptoms, back pain ( which makes it difficult to move about, stinging pee and leg pain)Its driving me mad. It's a constant barrage of urine samples, pain and medicine.

If anyone has any tips. Please help

No tips, but didn't want to read and run! I'm in a similar boat! Mine is a case of it won't shift, it appears to clear when on antibiotics but after 2 days of the course finishing it appears again! I'm away on to a 10 day course of antibiotics with the hope that'll shift it and then they are going to place me on a low dosage of antibiotics thereafter (assuming it shifts)

When I spoke to the consultants, I asked if I could go anything to help etc. She said only thing is to ensure I drink lots of fluids, ideally water only.

@MissKhan1990 this is probably really basic advice, but make sure you’re properly emptying your bladder when you pee. I had recurring UTIs as a teenager and I had a test that showed I wasn’t properly emptying my bladder. Lean forward when you pee to help empty out, or I find when I think I’ve finished peeing if I stand up slightly and try again I actually still need to go a little. Also make sure you’re wiping front to back, drinking plenty of water etc x

Hi - it is really common in the first trimester, how many weeks are you?

I had it for the whole 12 weeks and then finally the last round of antibiotics saw it off. I think it was 5 lots too!

I really upped my water for the last 2 rounds so not sure if that helped.

I do know it made me so miserable as I had the same back and leg ache as you and the infection made me even more exhausted than normal. But it does become a distant memory eventually!

I'm 35 +4

Oh! Confused sorry my advice isn't that relevant to you then!

Has the GP changed your antibiotics to a stronger dose OP or they do they keep giving the same one?

I didn’t get UTI in pregnancy but post labour, with the exact same situation, would finish one set of antibiotics and within a few days feel ill again. This went on for a good 2/3 months

Turned out the infection had actually gone to my kidneys and the normal antibiotics weren’t strong enough!

Once they gave me a very strong dose m, it cleared it right up.

Hope you get it sorted

I'm calling the doctor, going to ask about it spreading to kidneys and possibility of a stronger antibiotics. Or a longer dose and a lower dose until baby comes.

I don't have fever chills, nausea or vomiting. Associated with spreading to kidneys.

Its definitely worth a try.

My first 2/3 were normal UTI symptoms and it was only the final time when i started feeling like I was coming down with the flu that they prescribed stronger antibiotics (they were still adament it was just a extreme uti as I didn’t have backpain) but i got a 2nd opinion and he agreed it had most likely spread to kidneys.

Thanks everyone.

I did speak to the doctor, though it was hard to get a word in edgeways! I now have a new course of antibiotics and another sample to give.

I'm definitely going to up the water, as l think it needs to be more than 2ltrs.

I have this too. Tested positive for UTIs 6 times now. I'm 30 weeks. Dr told me to drink cranberry juice daily (which I do and doesn't seem to help). Now I'm on low dose antibiotics until the end of the PG (one a day). They've also referred me for a kidney ultrasound to rule out any other cause but been waiting on that for over a month now. Think the baby will be here before the ultrasound appointment.
